1992 Dayton AD Winner Rolex Real or Fake

I know there have been several other threads and I have spent countless hours researching real vs. fake rolex watches. Even after all of my research I still can't figure out if I have the real one or a very nice replica. The watch in question is this one

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolex_Daytona

and is the second one pictured. It is the Black Face 1992 Daytona AD Winnner 24 18k White Gold.

This watch was given to me by a VERY good and humble and trustworthy friend. He is a senior engineer for a VERY large corporation and the watch was given to him as a gift by the ex-president of his divison that just recently retired. My buddy told me that the gentleman that gave him the watch showed him papers on it but didnt give him the papers (????). My buddy feels that it is real and that the guy who gave it to him would have never wore a "fake" watch. I feel bad because I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth or doubt a friend but a FAKE is a FAKE is a FAKE and if it really is fake than I want him to know.

After all my research I would have to say if this is a knock off it is the best I have seen. I did take it to a jeweler to have the clasp fixed and a link removed (and here is where the story gets interesting). The jewler immediatley looked at the watch and asked if I won it in a sales contest. He said it was a rare rolex and very expensive. He was skeptical from the jump (or so he acted). The watch was sent away and they said they couldnt fix it because it wasnt real. However when I got it back it had more issues with it. Some of the parts on the face had come undone and were floating in the watch. I was really upset because that was not how I gave it to them. He said "well tahts what happens with fakes" and was rude about it. My first inclanation was maybe they switched it out, knowing they had a guy who didnt know about watches and gave me back a fake. Than the jewler agreed to go inside the glass and fix it for me. I just got it back and it has a small scratch on the inside of the glass now (barley visible but there) so I am still really mad. However if it is a fake I dont really care. My concern is that 1. it WAS real the jelwers swicthed it out on me and gave me back a hunk of junk hence all the prolems and I just lost a VERY rare and expensive gift or 2. It just is a fake and the jewler was nice enough to work on it anyway.

Here are some pictures someone please end the madness lol PLEASE HELP me figure this out.

Just out of curiousity how can you tell so quickly that it is a fake. What are the dead giveaways? I did a lot of research on the hands, the clasp, the smooth back etc... and allof that was on point. So what are the dead giveaways?

There are lots of "1992 Daytona 24 Hours Winner" casebacks floating around. FTR, there are only three drivers who won the 1992 race, and they're Japanese, so what are the odds of a real one making its way to you in Ohio?

thats just the thing the caseback is not engraved its smooth. The writing is indetical, the weight is the same, the clasp is the same, the hands are the same lenght the dials are same size and distance..... I guess I am just naive enough to think someone would actually "give" someone else a watch that expensive.

I am a Rolex Rookie as you can tell... I am still wearing Citizens LOL

Either you're friend or his boss is a liar.

I can't even see the pics all that clearly and I can tell its a fake. If you compared it to pics of real Daytona's, it would be obvious. If you're still not convinced after comparing the pics, the dial falling apart off should have

Besides, what are the odds that someone gives away $11K watch to an employee and then he decides to give it to a friend?

The dial gave it away in a half second glance.

This is the cheapest chinese fake, the $3 - 5 version.

It's really nasty, nothing like an original 116520, nevermind a genuine Daytona Winner presentation watch.
