Icon14 Collected the Dweller....

I ran to the AD at 6pm after work today and got my hands on my new (used from 2006) SD ...

I ended up paying what I think is a very good price for it. I thought it's either now or never...as prices are getting crazy. It is a tank of a watch, I like the extra thick crystal and caseback. I don't care for the HEV but I guess the history with Rolex, Comex and the HEV is there at least ...

I am not sure I prefer it to my SubC since it is a bit top heavy, lacks the fine adjustment of the glidelock clasp and the clasp is not centred on my tiny 6.5 inch wrists. I am still getting accustomed to the small unmagnified date. I really like the text on the caseback and the thick crystal (but I already said that) ....from the solidness of the case and bracelet to the triplock crown this watch feels like a mini vault...hard to explain but it's true ...

It's really late now...I'll try to snap some pics for you guys and a mini review later this week. I have promised my girlfriend (and myself) that I'll decide which watch to keep between this and the SubC by next Sunday as I can't afford to keep both at this time...

So which one will it be....

The only Rolex I own is the SD, so I can't comment on the SubC. What I can say is the SD is a great watch and very comfortable to wear. Can't imagine me wishing to trade it.

Best of luck in your choice and I look forward to your review.

Congrats

Too bad you can't keep both, but that happens sometimes.

SD all the way! That being said.... I want a Sub-C too.

However, I still think the SD is a must. You can always grab a Sub-C down the line, and they will eventually be a little cheaper on grey market after a few years.

Both watches are great.

For daily wear the Sub C is more comfortable, less top heavy compared to the SD. However, regarding appreciation value SD will be the one to keep. I have noticed that all discontinued sport watches have increased their value considerable compared to current models that are still in production.

If it was me I would choose the SD, not because it retains its value (that's a bonus) but mainly I'm not a big fan of the cyclops.

Congrats on the SD It is an amazing watch. I also have a couple of Sub C's and the SD, I would have a hell of a time deciding if if came to pick just one but I think the SD would win...

You will get used to the weight and learn to love it, I also have 6.5 range wrists and it is perfect Looking forward to some pics too.

I have my SD on my arm again today. 8 years old. Still looking and being like new. +1 per day. It would be the last watch out of my entire collection I would get rid of.

I also have both and would be hard-pressed to keep just one. They are so similar, but yet very different. I have a 6.75" wrist and removed a permanent link from the 6 o'clock side. It now fits perfect.

Thanks for all your replies ....

I am really torn between the two. Both have their strong points and it is not easy to choose between them but in terms of wearing comfort the SubC wins...

Removing a permanent link from the 6 o'clock side would make the SD a much better fit for me. I did that to my Sub and it fits much better now...hoever the sub is a lifetime watch...so I'll need to be sure I'm keeping this watch before I do that ....

jannel, I dont think the SD is more top heavy than the subC, The SD is a better daily wearer because you dont have to worry about scratching or breaking the bezel :P
