I have one of the original DeVille Co-Axial Limited Editions, in white gold. I've had it about five years. It's one of my favorites, and I often wear it as a dress watch.

Think its my love for vintage watches JJ, most pre 40s watches had blue
steel hands,but thet are still very popular, on todays modern styles.

This is how a watch should be: very legible, classic lines, date, waterproof (for non divers) and a chronometer movement. The problem with guys like us is that is seems almost impossible to hold on to a watch like that. Example: my father owns a very nice gold Omega watch (with a square case) and that watch is at least 50 years old. His thoughts are; it was an expensive watch, it is a good watch, it serves me well so why buy another watch? He will buy one as soon as the Omega gets a defect that is beyond repair, not a moment sooner.

When I bought the Cartier, I was still living with my parents and my father just could not believe the outlay of money for something as mundane as a watch. My parents lived through WWII and always had a hard life. They’d never splash out on something like an expensive watch. A total waste of money to them.

At some point in time my collection comprised of 18 watches (9 for each wrist), but only two of them were notable, an Omega Moon Watch and the 16610. (I sold the Cartier to my brother who still wears it everyday). But you can only wear one watch at a time (unless you are the CEO of Swatch). Watches have become accessories instead of life time investments now. Even the more expensive ones. I would like to own the Omega but not as my only watch. We are not ‘one watch’ guys.

Watches have become accessories instead of life time investments now. Even the more expensive ones.

I don't see my watches as accessories (Heck, I wear a uniform five days a week) or as a lifetime investment. I just like watches and was lucky (or dumb) enough to get some of the ones I liked.

Ollie's is pretty good. They have several locations. Recommended to NYC visitors who might be a little timid about going to Chinatown. Also recommended are restaurants near the United Nations. Very expensive, but most of 'em are also quite good.

But if you don't go to Chinatown for your Chinese, your chances of getting some great cannolis and napoleons for dessert aren't nearly as good. ;-)
