SS or TT Daytona

We all know the SS is selling at way above retail price, but you can get a good discount on the TT. This makes the TT so much cheaper than the SS. Has gold lost its glitter?

The price differential of the two remains for pre-owned ones.

If you have the readies, which would you buy? Buy the TT and save a bundle or pay way above retail for the SS?

I have a SS Sub and a TT DJ. If you can live with a bit of gold, that's the way to go. Aside from scratching it's just a rugged as steel and adds a little dressier dimension. Also, to me it seems like something that costs what you pay for these watches should have at least some precious metal in them.

SS Black Face Daytona is awesome, I can't get enough of looking at mine. The TT is nice as well!

I always go with the "buy what you really like" advice. For myself, that would be SS regardless of the proximity in price to the TT. However, if you like them both equally, I'd go TT all the way. Not only will it be easier to acquire, you should be able to negotiate a pretty attractive discount which will essentially boil down to getting a watch with gold for the same price as only stainless steel. Regardless of the market, I think we can all agree that gold is more valuable than stainless steel!

I own a TT Blue SUb it looks amazing, I was going to get the SS model first only because I had to pull an extra 3G's for the other one. BUt after carefull consideration and advise from almost everyone on this forum! I went TT BLUE and I am really glad I made that decision.

The SS daytona is popular because its in high demand, but its just stainless steel, if you get TT it has gold and gold is always worth more ! (plus it looks nicer)

Well thats my 2 cents choose wisely !

The Daytona is my favourite Rolex model.

I bought my '523 for £1000 less than I was offered a SS White Face at the same time from the same seller.

My so called "modern newman" dialed '518.

This one is being held for me but I have not yet committed to it. I've got a week to decide.

Hmm, I do believe Rolex makes much fewer SS and the black dial is in great demand judging from the going rate. Things happen for a reason and for the SS it is just a simple case of demand outstripping supply.

IMO if we choose to buy the SS we just have to forget about the hefty premium and pay up. The price for any subsequent resale would be relatively higher too. So, the question on intrinsic value (oh, I get back some gold on the TT) really doesn't apply. Buying gold bars would be a better option.

I agree that both the SS or TT have their own attraction. Yes, the TT is a bit dressier.

I want a Daytona. Now you guys have me all confused. Thought I would hold out and get a SS (hopefully someday at MSRP), but man for a bit more with a decent discount I could go TT.

I do have two other TT now already though...

It doesn't look good. The only way you can get an SS at MSRP is if you are a real buddy of the AD, but ADs have thousands of 'buddies.' Or when hell freezes over.

TT all the way. I love my gold crowns and bezel etc. It really gives it a special look. Now that I think of it I barely see TT Daytonas mostly all SS or all YG (which imho is breathtaking) So its nice to have something different!
