What was your 1st 'serious' watch before Rolex?

Just like the list of exes. I am sure as a watch enthusiast, you will remember your past watches and amongst those, there will be one that was your first 'serious' watch. Just like your first serious gf after a few puppy love
In any case, don't bother too much with the definition of 'serious'. Because I want to know why you define it as 'serious'.

Mine was the Tag Heuer Kirium.

Before the Tag, I had a string of Casios, a Swatch, a Seiko and a Citizen.

To me, the Tag was my first serious watch because it was it was a graduation gift from my parents and my first adult sized SS watch. I said adult sized SS watch is because my very first watch when I was 7 was a SS Casio, the bracelet resembles a jubliee bracelet

I wear the Tag regularly for 9 years until I acquired the GMT IIc with my own moolah. From time to time, I rotate the Tag with my GMT IIc. I still love the Kirium to bits.

So what's your story prior to the Rolex?

Omega Seamaster, also had an Oris but only for a about a month, the Titanium didn't work for me.

Still miss the Seamaster:

To be fair the Seamaster was my "gateway" watch because I could see what a difference a high-end swiss movement meant for everyday wear. The Seiko's and Casio's I owned before the Seamaster just don't match up.

The GMTIIC was my first luxury watch.

TAG 2000 Professional, midsize, almost 20 years ago. Wore it daily until I got my subc last year. I resized it for my 10 year old son. He wears it in rotation with his Lego watch.
Btw my very first watch (also age 7) was a very basic Timex, with a stretchy bracelet. Problem was I needed to wear it almost at my elbow my arm was so slim. By the way it keeps on ticking (as long as it's wound). Lousy timekeeper though. Needs servicing.

Not me, my wife "rations" my play money so that has made me a serial flipper! That is until recently, I've settled on my TT Sub and a SS Daytona.

Casios, Seikos, and Citizens was it before I dove right into Rolex. I got the Omegas and Pam after I got tired of buying Rolex.

It appears that Omegas and Tags are the common stepping stone prior to Rolex.

Although I must say that Omega is still a very nice alternative with Rolex.

I personally do not really like the current Tags.

Prior to Rolex I have had two "serious" watches and really can't pick one over the other.

1. A gold Elgin my grandfather gave me in 1966 for my graduation from high school...still have it, still runs but needs a cleaning service.

2. A gold (plated) Lucien Piccard I bought new in 1973/74. This thing looked very much like a Rolex President and I think I paid about $200, a big sum back then. I've had it serviced several times, replaced the crown once, gave it to my dad about 10 years ago and he still has it.

I've had many watches through the years and remember the first digital watches but my first semi-expensive watch was a Tag Heuer Formula 1. I no longer own it since buying my second Rolex and my friend now owns it!!!

thats all relative,

every watch was serious, it was the best i could afford and the style that was just right for me at the time.... but then we evolve and here we are.

started with digital watch with the coolest red led numbers..... a few others then i found a seiko diver that was perfect.... to a tag-heuer.... to a omega.... to a sub... and here ive been.

I don't know if you've seen them but the new (just released) Link series are quite nice. Much nicer bracelet especially, and nice dial designs. At their prices they would be a nice "first" nice watch for those not in the Rolex market.

I do not know much about IWC but this is definitely something as expensive, if not more expensive than a SS sports model Rolex.

thankfully no one said PP is their first serious watch before the Rolex.

Ok I must admit that I have not been browsing at Tags lately. I will check it out when I head to the malls during the weekend

I nearly bought a PAM 0 a few months before I bought the GMT IIC. But I held off the purchase because it is not a Rolex. :rolf:

I still like the Pam 0 and hope to own it some day.

I am glad that I still held on to my Tag although many friends suggested that I sell it. They said I will not wear it often with the Rolex in the scene. I also noticed that those who sell the 1st serious watch tend to regret it later.

I won't seel my Omega even though it doesn't see any wrist time anymore. I spent a good 9 years constantly with it. That counts for something.
