What would you get 4 cyl Honda Accord or 4cyl Toyota Camry?

Its a 25 years old argument but Ive owned Toyota (4cyl) all my adult life since 1981 when I bought a 82 Toyota SR5 pick-up.
My brother says a 4cyl Accord is a better all around car (resale included) ....

The new 2012 Camry is out now and looks pretty darn good to me. Would would you get?
I base my love of Toyota because My Highlander has been perfect and the Camry my wife had before that and the Camry before that one. One more question is Has anybody else had a bad Honda ? My wife's daughter had a 2001 Civic EX that was the worst car since a 76 Chevy Vega.
Transmission went out at 40k ....Struts at 50k .....second transmission at 70k
at 75k she got a Toyota RAV4
Ive been waiting for new model year to get a new Camry LE 4 cyl but he says I should look a Honda before I buy one.

The families has two Camry’s now, there brutally reliable (the older ones on 230k with with no problems)

Unfortunately they handle like boats.

They are boats...... the v6 is a luxury boat

and Lexus is a super Luxury Boat

I had a Prelude some time ago, and the first time I needed new brakes and tires was at 100000 miles. Both Camry and Accord are great cars, though

I have a 4cyl EXL-Nav Accord that I currently drive daily. It is awesome on gas, I just made a trip from DC to Detroit on a single tank. Both cars are about equally reliable, I think the Honda is a little more sporty and the Toyota is a little more luxury. In the end it always comes down to personal preference.

I have a CRV as well as a Camry LE. IMHO, Honda makes very strong engines. They seem to be more performance oriented than Toyota. The Camry seems more economy oriented. Between these two cars I prefer the older Camry over the CRV. It has twice the miles of the Honda and has been trouble free.
Both are good cars, but my next purchase is likely to be a Toyota.

Would you consider taking a look at the Nissan Altima? It's so much nicer than either. Elegant design, much better handling than the Camry, way more comfortable and quieter than the Honda, great fuel economy (performs better than it's listed).

Of the two i think the new Camry is a nicer looking car IMO. Both are good, its just preference really.

They both make me Yawn... But I'd chose the Accord if those were my only choices

My daughter is very hard on cars and gives them no care and her Accord has 160,000+ miles on it and she has no thought of getting rid of it.
On the other hand, a company with which I am familiar has a fleet of 36 Corollas and routinely drives them to 200,000+ miles with very little care.
Pretty tough to go wrong.

I'd go with the Honda. Toyota has had some quality control problems surface over the last few years that would make me a little hesitant to buy one. Who know how long long they've had those problems before they became news?

I'd go with the Toyota. I've owned a Tacoma (v6) and two 4Runners (both v8) and feel that Toyota makes a very high-quality vehicle. None of those trucks ever gave me any problems - just give it oil and gas and you're good to go.

Toyota only made the news because they are seen as the gold standard of quality control.
Not only are they still world leaders, but they also invented and established many of the significant quality control mechanisms that are now used globally (Kaizen, Kanban, 5S, JIT) and by all there competitors.

I vote for the new Camry......I am a big fan of the Honda Accord.....I have owned both.
The 2012 Accord (4cyl.) still has a 5 spd. automatic gearbox......and even though it's been recalibrated, etc., there's a 6 spd. auto box in the 2012 Camry(4cyl.).
The Accord has too many buttons for stuff, Camry much cleaner in the button category.

This will come down to personal preference and small issues of "leap-frogging", where one manufacturer has a temporary edge in a narrow area on their 2004-2008 product in 2004 and 2005, the other manufacturer has an edge in their 2006-2010 product in 2006 and 2007, etc.

I like the way the Accord handles with the double wishbone and multilink suspension.

The 2.4l iVTEC DOHC engine is quite peppy in my 2003 model. I prefer the 5-speed manual transmission.

If you get the Camry, go for the SE version.

Wow, that's amazing! I got a Highlander Sport in January of this year and I only have 3700 miles on it! At this rate I could probably drive it for the next 20 years! LOL!

The Nissan Altima got some of the highest consumer report ratings ever on a car....96 out of 100

I've had this since new....a 2001 model....the Highlander is based on the evergreen Camry....as are a few Toyota & Lexus models......still going strong.....no problems ever.
I'd get another....

Wow, that's great! I got a 2011 Sport model in January and I LOVE it! Had an X3 before and the HL is MUCH more comfortable! Looking forward to driving it for a long time

I personally like the Camry better than the Accord as far as looks go. They are both very reliable cars so I think that's even. Pick what you like best. Read consumer reports and see what they say. I don't think I will ever own a 4cyl though. Every vehicle I've owned has been a V8 except my Dodge 3500 which has a 5.9 liter 6cyl Cummins diesel. I need power!!!

Since 1997 the Toyota Camry has been the best selling car in America every year but one....2001.
I've owned cars from Toyota, Lexus, Honda & Acura......all good, but at this moment
I would by a 2012 Camry over a 2012 Accord.

My wife had a 1994 Accord that she put 180,000 miles on and did very little maintenance. When we sold it, it ran great. My daughter just totaled her 2001 Accord with 124,000 miles on it. It ran like a top. I just bought her a 2003 Accord that has 138,000 miles on it that was meticulously maintained. I hope she can get another 100,000 out of it. I have a 2003 Element that I have put 105,000 miles on, and it has never had any issues.

I really do not believe there is a whole lot of difference between Toyotas and Hondas. It boils down to which design do you like the best. The accords are pretty plain but you cannot beat the performance. The Toyota looks a little better. I like the racing heritage of Honda and suspect that some of that may work its way into better engines. Either way you cannot go wrong.
