Anyone testing Windows 8?

All I can do is quote Tom Hanks from Big-

I don't get it.

Tiles? Really? I click the start menu and it takes me to a totally new screen that looks like their new phone OS. It's just....stupid. I don't want to scroll through giant tiles to get to something that I know should be on a normal hierarchical menu. Just give me the menu, windows 95 style, please.

I understand they feel the need to change in order to entice people to buy something new, somtimes it's just best to leave some things the way they are.

Installed it on my Mac as a VM.

I don't get it, I may try again later.

From what I saw, when you click on a tile, and say open an XL sheet, it looks exactly like current version ... I haven't played with it, but the shots I saw looked very unfinished ... kinda like Windows Phone.

Do the tiles have any logic? Like size and position depending on what is open, new emails and stuff like that? Is there any integration of that navigation concept down the line or is it just a graphical start menu?

It's really, really rough, and they will probably dump some stuff. I understand the windows phone has some followers, but leave the stupid tiles on the phone.

They haven't really given anyone a compelling reason to move from XP.

MS is lost without Gates driving the ship.

My company is still on XP.

I am running 7 on a custom built gaming box...but I use a Mac for everything else.

Hope y'all realize the release that's out in the public... is not even a beta... it's an alpha, which is really really really far from what it will look like in when it finally releases.

Also, the intent of Windows 8 is to have 1 OS that can be used on any device.... tablets and PC's alike... if you're an Information Worker and don't like the Metro UI... you can switch back to Windows Classic mode with 1 touch.

God forbid someone not named Apple or Google try to do something innovative and different....

I'm all for innovation...but I rarely think of Microsoft and innovation in the same sentence...these days anyway.

Sorry Sunny but the last decent thing that came out of Redmond was windows2k. I've never even heard of the three technologies that you just listed...

Microsoft marketing sucks... something fierce... but the technology and innovation has always been there... we've just done a poor job of getting the word out:

Kinect is nifty, and was a smart purchase by Microsoft. Not a smart development by Microsoft.

Surface - pointless, I thought it had already been abandoned. Photosynth - cute, obscure, it's been done.

I'm hoping Balmer may throw a few more menu ribbons on Office XIV, tighten down the screws a bit more when Windows X Premium Pro Office Mobile Connected Edition launches, then call it a career :)

The new "Turn your home into a PC store and have a cross-eyed untucked "cool" guy help you pick out a pretty computer" commercials are lame beyond lame, but I like this one:
