Hard to tell from one picture, but I am not liking the way that hologram looks. The numbers seem too big and are not worn off much. The numbers are the first to go on a worn watch.

Looks ok to me. Do you know what letter series it is? How old is it? Z? Y? F? D?
If it is pretty new that is a good price. Which could be a red flag. |

The hologram is probably the best part.
No chance I could tell from these pix, sorry.

Looks like skinny hands. $6,000 is a steal if it is authentic. How about a pic of the boxes and papers?

Hard to tell from bad quality photos. But I THINK that the hour markers at 3, 6 and 9 are TOO "square" (a typical sign of a Daytona fake).
Also, the hands are thin. That might be okay, but we would have to know what LETTER the serial number starts with to determine if this Daytona belongs to the "before "Fat Hands" period". Anyway, it IS the old style box.

I found some links you might want to study:
"Fat Hand" vs "Skinny Hand" Daytona (note at what SERIES it started): http://www.rolexreferencepage.com/fathands.html And about the looks of Rolex boxes ("new" vs "old): http://www.rolexreferencepage.com/boxes.html

Well, in that case, until now it seems okay. It must then be an "early F-series "Skinny Hands" + old box.
Still: Without seeing high definition photos of it, I cannot tell if it is the "Real McCoy".

Big question - Who are you dealing with? That's a good starting point right there. If it's a friend who just wants to sell it and is giving you a nice price, fine. But take it to an AD and have it checked inside and out.
If it's from a source that seems in any way questionable, definitely have it checked at an AD. If everything checks out, and you love it GRAB IT. Best, Larry. |

But SOMETHING strikes me as being strange!
Look at the photos! The watch shown seems to be BRAND NEW since it has all plastic on it. Not just the sticker, but note also that it has the case side plastiv coverings on it! And at the end of the clasp. Now, and early F-series would date the watch to somewhere in 2004 ("mid F-series"), so my question: WHY would ANY sell an "untouched" (and we are talking UNtouched for over 3 years!!) SS Daytona, let alone a rare "Skinny Hands" for a mere 6 K US??!?! This smells!

it doesn't matter if that watch is real or not.
maybe the watch on the pictures is real but you will NEVER get a real one for that price. 6000 usd even 6000 euro is WAY TO CHEAP for a real one. |
