500 000 SERIAL and a 1680 case?? on Submariner

So I am new to this but here goes...
I just bought this Sub in ruff shape. Any ideas what is going on with it??
I could not up load my pics sorry. The watch maker where I got it said this Sub had a bi directional bezel. So I don't know, the serial 534xxx says it should be 1957 or so and the model 1680 says late 60s It has the date but the case back does not have a year on it like some do. so there it is I could use some help
Thanks

Hi and welcome, should be about 1978 by the serial number, is it a white sub 1680? You will need to post pics.

Thanks. I don't know how to size down the pics. Yes it is white. What do you know about the bi- directional bezel?

cheers, you will need photoshop or some photo editing tool to resize. Or take some mobile phone pics in smaller sizes. The upload size should be less than 285kb and less than 1000x1000 dimension. Bezel should be bi directonal I guess but others here will quip in.

You can always re-size in MS Paint!

But it sound like a late there is a missing number in the serial.
The 1680 in the late seventies has a 5million serial and bi-directional bezel.
My is 5,2M serial (77/78) but the clasp on my bracelet is VC (78).

The friction fit bi-directional bezel is correct for the 1680. Uni-directional ratching didn't come along till the 16800.

+1 buffy, well spotted, thought OP meant 5mill. James, you will need to check the ref/serial number again and if possible using a magnifying loupe just in case one of the zeros has faded.

Hi cruvon Thanks for the help I was wondering about the dating method you used? How did you come up with 1978. I think you are right but when I use the serial number chart it says 1957. So you know some thing i don't can you share thank you!
I thought i was missing a number too, but the watch makers apprentice kept saying no they are all there.(watch was just bought and still at watchmakers waiting for shipping)
and thanks to every one else I have learned a few things so far.

I'm confused. Why are we saying a 534,xxx serial is 1978!? 5mill is in that range, but not 500k. 500k is 1958/59ish.

Well there is no 500k serial 1680 sub...
The first red 1680 starts on 2Mill and goes up to 4mill. And the white on is around 5Mill. So there most likly missing a digit in the serial. The 4mill serial are replacment cases if I am not misstaken.

For a white sub it's most likely in the 5million range (late 1970's)
