Daytona Zenith vs Milli
TRF,
I went to my local AD this past weekend with full intention on putting some money towards M serial Milli-GV(M serial 2008 I think), which I did, but I ran into something that really caught my eye. I have been "trolling" the site, soaking up all the info you guys put out there, and naturally, I have picked up on the Daytona obsession/mystique. It's a nice piece, however I cannot stand the white/silver dials. The Panda is awesome, but out of my price range at the moment. When I was perusing the AD's Daytona's that they would "allow" me to see, I ran into an A serial Zenith, both in black and white. The white with the black dials looked dead sexy. The bezel did not have much wear and a very insignificant "scratch" on the sapphire. They initially said 9-10k, but they did some calling around/research when I was contemplating and said lowest they would go is 11k. If it was 10, I would do it, but I feel like I should not bite at 11 based on principle - seems like they might be trying to milk it a bit? Either way, the decision is tough as I own a 2003 subLV and am torn between the two. I think both are dressy compared to my sub(which is what I was going for) but the Zenith seems like it would require more "maintenance," but is halfway there to being vintage, while the Milli is common enough to find. The matte dial on the Milli though is only appreciated in person, just gorgeous. Help! AC |

First of all welcome! And second, I hope you have been "lurking" the site and not "trolling" it
I really like the Zenith Daytona and would buy it before the Milgauss. I don't think the Daytona needs more maintenance than any other Rolex, although from what I understand its a bit more expensive to service. Good luck deciding |

I'd go for the Daytona as well, Have a look at the For sale section right here on TRF.
And as Daniel already said it wouldn't need more maintenance then any other mechanical watch.

As for the Daytona, I am a fan of the Zenith El Primero so would consider a Zenith Daytona over a newer Daytona. |

Yes, I meant lurking, obviously a newb.
Daytona seems to be edging out the GV? Do you think the AD is being fair with his asking? He is providing a year warranty, which is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. |

You can check out chrono24.com to see what the sellers are asking to get an idea. I think the A series have the final updates such as SEL:s and lume on the hands so that would (could) command a higher price.

Welcome to TRF.
As for the Zenith needing more frequent PM - I say BS! Zenith has been running the El Primero at 36,000 bph for years with no problems. When the EP first came out numerous people said maintainance and wear would be a problem. The "problem" never came to fuition.

I am stunned with the amount of "daytona" responses. I think both watches are amazing and even daresay stunning in their respective ways.
I just don't understand how easily you guys say daytona though, like its a clear choice. As the Zenith is pretty much the same price as new model, do you think the Zenith is still a clear pick compared to a new one? |
