16600 or 14060M?
Hello,
I'm looking for either a 16600 or 14060M to add to my collection (I've been a Panerai guy for years FYI). I like the thicker case of 16600, but I also like the no date and simplicity of the sub. Now I am totally confused. Which one do you recommend? Thanks. Need to flip one of the following to buy the new grail: Breguet Type XXI, PAM005, PAM243, PAM390, Breitling Navitimer, Rolex date 15200, Rolex 2EXPII black. Which one would you let go? Thanks |

14060M with an old slightly undersized NATO strap.
Timeless elegance, masculinity and understated bling. You'll not regret it. |

Between the two I would go with the 16600.

If you don't need the date function, get the 14060M. Classic, understated beauty, with the most DNA from the original Submariner. The slimmer case is also a plus, IMHO.

They are both excellent. Depends on what's most important to you.
What would bring me over the edge is something rarely talked about on TRF. There's significantly less "glare effect" ( i.e. the faceless watch disease black dialed Rolex sport watches have at certain angles and lighting conditions due to the lack of AR coating on the crystal) on the SD. I've mentioned this before...I think this is due to the thickness of the crystal and smaller diameter that cuts into the glare on the SD. SD for the win because of this. |

If you're on the fence, the 16600 will hold its value better. Personally, I like the slimness of the 14060M, which is why I bought one.
I'd let the black EXPII go. Not only is it more similar to the Sub/SD than anything else you have, I've never been able to warm up to the black face and brushed bezel...to me it looks like a GMT that's missing its bezel. |

The desirability and the resale value of the 16600, not to mention physical superiority over all others in the Rolex line except for the DSSD, puts it at the top of the list. Pay a little extra but it is way way worth it in the long run..

I just got a 14060M this week. This was my reasoning:
- I have several dive watches with a date function (Omega SMP, Omega PO, Rolex GMT Coke and Rolex GMT TT), and the ND would be a nice break from the collection. - Although both of the watches you mention are iconic, I think the ND is a nose ahead, just because of those pictures of james Bond with his NATO band. Either way, there are both wonderful pieces and you really can't go wrong. AND maybe sometime down the road you'll end up with both. Once you have the watch bug, you have the watch bug. Best of luck with your decision! Adrian |

With the 16600, for a little more, you are getting WAY more. You can always upgrade to a 16600 after you get your 14060 but just know that it is a tough watch to sell becasue is its bracelet is noisy and most people want a date function.
What ever you are paying for the 14060M, you are gonna pay about 20%-30% more for an SD. |

Of the two I know which one I picked. You really need to decide which one suits your needs.

Pick the one that sings to you. If it really sings to you, exit the AD store immediately and seek medical help -- Your problems are a whole lot bigger!
ok, if you are confused, then bet on the 16600. |

thanks again for the feedback. So the 16600 will hold its value better?
It's not like I will sell it, but it wouldn't hurt to know I have a watch that holds value better than others. |

Yes it will since it has stopped production and also in the eyes of collectors, it occupies a higher spot than the 14060m. Everything sells if the price is right but you will always have anoverwhelming response with the SD and people wanting to negotiate with you better. |

to the op: you should have started a poll for like a week and see what would have happened. MY guess, SD would have left the 14060m far behind.

14060M gives a panerai guy what he wants .... easy strap change.
or you could go with an older lughole version of 16610

I haven't really started looking very hard. I'm mainly looking for D,Z,M serial letter and there's one D series for sale here in Taiwan for around USD5100 ( mint condition and never polished). I don't know...I will keep looking for newer year SD. The newer the better for me.

I already have 4 Rolex divers so I for me it might be ok to get the 14060M. But if this is your only rolex, then might as well make it the 16600. Usually I have seen most people buy the 14060m last, to increase their collection. |

Personally I prefer the 16600 as I like the added weight and the no-cyclops date, but some prefer the thinner 14060M.
If you're looking to buy new, there aren't too many new 16600s left out there while the 14060M is still being made. |

If this matters to you, the SD is, as mentioned, more of a collector's piece. It is less common and seen.... and more unique ( no cyclops, higher depth rating, HRV, tailored even more to the serious diver) as compared to the Subs.
