Mother of Pearl and Precious Stones.
Hello People,
What is the general consensus about mother of pearl dials with emerald and diamond set chapter rings like this Day-Date, Ref. 18238. Are these watches in demand for investment purposes or are they too ostentatious. Do they hold value? Lend me your thoughts. |

no rolex is to be used for investment purposes. i never understood why people think that a rolex could make them money, unless you were buying them at unbelievable dealer prices, and flipping them for profit.
all gold models tend to do poorly in terms of resale (when bought new!); i say, buy what you can afford and like. not what others think because you will be on the never ending chase to get what you believe other people want you to wear. i personally go for meteorite with diamond markers, but hey thats me

It's not that I'm about that at all (investment). It was only to flip for profit so I could purchase a watch I'd 'prefer' to wear. It is too flashy for me, I just wanted to know what people thought, often because of lower prices in Rolex's made of a combination of steel and gold, due to their demand. If its gold i'm all about this.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that is not going to happen. flipping for profit is not easy, infact, you are going to be low balled most times by both dealers and sellers looking for a bargain. might as well buy what you want now, and not have to deal with flipping, etc.

I'd say diamonds are better saved for ladies' jewlery and watches.

Is that an after market dial? if it is then I reckon not many would be interested in an after market add on.

I like diamond markers on a Day-Date but I wouldn't go aftermarket for it. As well, I like meteorite dials with them but MOP and emerald markers look a bit too feminine to me. Just my opinion tho!
