new watch runs slow

Two weeks ago I purchased a new Sub no date from a local AD. The watch is running slow. It seems to lose at least a half hour a day. The AD wants to send it to Rolex. Shouldn't they just exchange it for a new one or is this propper protocol? Thanks for the feedback.

De-magnatize!

I once bought a sub and it was off so I took it to my local RSC and they de-magnatized it for me. Ran within cosc after that. But that was a pre-loved piece. If I bought brand new I would tell the AD to exchange. They should sell Rolex's that are within cosc standards.

Why would you suppose that they would exchange it for a new one.. ???? It's a simple adjustment, but under warranty, most Dealers are not allowed to do the work...

I would go back to the AD and ask for another watch as well, the fact that it's not running properly isn't your problem and you shouldn't wait for them to do something on it.

Maybe this post explains the problem!?!?

If that's the case, and you dropped it, do you really think the AD would exchange it with damage?

'Will dropping a watch from 3 feet or so make it run slow?'

i actually burst out laughing in work!

Well thanks! I know it sounds bad but the watch only fell from my dresser to the carpeted floor. I didn't think this should affect the watch but wondered. So will it be andI should it be affected from this ?

Apart from dropping your watch have you ever given your watch a full manual wind. You say your watch seems to loose half a hour a day, have you done a proper test because your post sounds a bit vague.First fully wind watch 40 full crown turns clockwise.Next synchronise your watch with a reliable time sourse a quartz watch will do.Then wear daily for 8 hours plus a day, check time daily over 5 days with same setting sourse. Then average out the loss or gain over the 5 days.If AVERAGE is well over the COSC -4 to + 6 sec spec get it regulated or that fall could have done something to the movement its that simple.

did it run slow before the drop? I'm guessing that will help answer your question.

Wow-would you expect a car dealer to take back a car you have crashed? Nope, didn't think so. Let the dealer send it to rolex, if you are lucky then it will be covered by warranty, but if they come back and say "damaged and it will cost $xxx to fix then suck it up and accept that YOU damaged the watch accidentally and rolex is not to blame.

I think a Rolex should survive a 3' fall onto carpet! I am not about to test that hypothesis with own watch, though.

As far as replacement, Apple replaced my iPhone when it developed a crack, gratis. I would not expect an AD to do the same with a Rolex costing $8000, though, especially considering the time you waited.
