I have a personal jewelry policy (aside from my home insurance) which covers my wedding rings and 2 Rolexes. Pretty inexpensive monthly and peace of mind is so worth it!

I have Allstate, they told me to fax them the Appraisal, I plan on doing that tomorrow, I just want to check around first, so I need to make sure that it is aside from my homeowners?

I have a rider on my home policy covering my 3 watches (Sub, Daytona, Breitling). I also have 2 Great Danes (combined weight 260 lbs.) that guard my babies while at home.

For me, cost to insure on a rider is about $11/1000.

I live in the big city. In the burbs or the country, it would probably be less.

I've heard that separate policies for jewelry actually work really well, especially if your insurer is one to drop you the second you make a claim.
I don't have my watch insured, currently, because I have it on my wrist pretty much every second of every day (the benefit of having only one, I guess! ). When the blessed moment comes that I collect my second Rollie, I'll probably ensure them both as I described above. Theft, however, doesn't concern me as much as loss/damage, etc.

Oh, I dunno, Ruben. If your insurance company drops you over a single claim, you have a crappy insurance company. Better to find out when you lose your watch, than when you lose your house.

I actually have the best insurer on the planet, but most do not.
From what I've heard from a lot of people with "big name" insurers is that if you make an expensive claim against something insured they will drop you from that component of your policy after the claim has been satisfied. Hasn't happened to me but I have heard of it happening.
A separate jewelry policy, in my opinion, is still the best because their coverage is more comprehensive.

Right now my jewelry is covered under our homeowners insurance, but I plan to change that to a personal policy when I purchase a watch for my husband. I believe there is a greater chance of an item being lost or stolen while it is being worn, out of the home.

Yes, our German Shepherd loves her job, and only asks for dog food and a daily cuddle!

I just called my insurance company and asked if I could be insured against the decease mania rolexiae

I explained to them that I might have caught this "virus" since I tend to hang around on a forum called TRF all day.

They said "Yes, but it is too late!

They responded furthermore:

"You obviously already have the decease, so our rules are that we cannot insure events that have already happened!"

DAMN!

I should not have told them about it and just have let me be insured! Then I could later have bought a YG Day-Date for the insurance money.

I'm insured with the same company as my house and cars (through a separate policy)... covers everything. Even if I were to go crazy and take a sledgehammer to it.... full replacement. I pay about $100 a month.

I have to pay £5 a month extra on my home insurance for my GMT Master and that insures it for anywhere in the world. I have to pay the same amount for my telescope (roughly equal value) and they won't insure that for use outside the boundaries of my property!

Like many others here on the forum, we have a rider on our home owners ins. policy. It is relatively inexpensive. I have not needed to use it fortunately. Cheers, Bill P.

American Security Burglary/Fire safe similar to Larry's. Plus a New Mexico State Police 50th anniversary Smith & Wesson 357 magnum.

Larry,
Love that strongbox. Is it refrigerated? You could hide a couple bodies in there.

You can have a rider on your homeowners but it's better to have a separate policy. I use State Farm for everything but the jewelry is a separate policy. Cost is $13 per $1000. In regard to jewelry at home, I'm not as concerned about a theft at home as much as a theft when out anywhere or if somehow maybe the bracelet broke and I lost it. How could anyone afford to be out that much money? Especially if you had a $20,000 Rolex. A $5000 lost would be bad enough.
