Icon6 Pepsi on GMT II (16710)

Hi folks

A bit of GMT Master history.... Seems pretty clear the Pepsi bezel was available as an original option (i.e. mounted on the watches as delivered by Rolex to the ADs) on the GMT Master II - # 16710. I think that combo (just like the Coke and all-black bezel variations) was even given some kind of model variation code of its own at some point. One or two letters added after 16710 in brouchures and perhaps on papers but (mark!) not on the case.

However, was the Pepsi bezel available as an original option when the 16710 was launched??? Or was that something that came later on? Anyone who knows?

Many (perhaps all) Rolex catalogues from the 1990s just show the Coke option for the 16710, with the Pepsi and all-black alternatives shown for the GMT Master 16700 only.

Cheers!

Pretty sure the pepsi bezel was available on the 16710 since it's release.

all 3 colors were available for the 16710. the coke insert was the only option for the 16760. black is the only choice (so far) for the 116710.

Thanks for your contributions chaps! So, GMT Master History site says all three bezel variations were available for the 16710. Would still be interesting to know, though, why all/most catalogues at least in the 90s just showed the Coke variation. Maybe has got something to do with what Roger wrote, Coke being the only option for the predecessor, the 16760.

Interesting to note that the Coke variation was called just 16710 whereas the all-black and Pepsi variations had the extra letters (LN and BLRO) after the model no.

I've dug a bit further and I have a theory: It' s clear that the 16710 was available with the Pepsi and all-black bezels as origianl options BUT MAYBE NOT UNTIL the GMT Master ref 16700 had been discontinued i.e. in 1999. In the catalogues and price lists from the 90s that I've seen, the 16700 is listed with Pepsi and all-black bezels as options and the 16710 with red/black bezel only.

There is a Rolex ad featuring Chuck Yaeger and the GMT II but the featured watch has solid end-links i.e. is post-1999.
