Is Rolex pulling a "SS Daytona" with the EXP II?
Just got back from my AD, (Ben Bridge), they said they had only seen ONE (1) EXP II so far, and that they are getting requests and even have a waiting list reminiscent of the old: Can't get the SS Daytona-paying over MSRP debacle of a few years ago.
Is this true? Has anyone seen them sitting in display cases? Do you think Rolex would (try to) do this to this model too? |

There are none in NYC AD's at the moment... Was at William Bartham this weekend and spoke to Steven who mentioned that allocation of both dials are scarce (at least for now)...

If it becomes scarce then the pre-owned value could rise.

The AD in Walnut Creek, Ca. has them in the case, white & black dial.
The ex2 is still a cult watch, maybe your AD didn't bring a lot in.

I went into the AD as well tonight and asked about the new Exp IIs. The sales woman told me they were kept in the back, and pulled out a white one for me to try on. I wasn't really feeling it and asked to see a SS Daytona, which she then stated that they don't keep in the cases, as once they arrive, they are immediately sold to the next person on the waiting list. Interesting!!

Not as far as in HK. Seen them on AD and also currently being offered a li'l discount at the gray market. Unlike the daytona where you have to pull a lot of strings just to be put on the real waiting list.

Philly area AD's have them and they're not moving very well either. They're already all over the secondary market at discounts. They're no big deal.

Lots of Expys IIs around.
No disrespect to the folks who love 'em...but this watch is not setting the world on fire. |

No, I visited four AD's (within the past month) around Los Angeles when I was buying my GMT-IIc, ALL of them had at least one Explorer II.

Paul, can't comment here in Aus as the AD generally tear the out of the price. Seem's to be a reasonable selection and steady flow of 116570's here in the TRF sale section.

A friend of mine stopped in the local AD over the weekend. He was offered 10% off on an EXP 42. He also said the same white dial Daytona has been there at least four months, just sitting in the case
I never understood the hype behind the modern Daytona

If is a very small word with so many meanings, and why has any Rolex watch got to be all about value.IMHO its sad today the many just see Rolex watches as $$$$££££,instead of owning and wearing one of the finest watches made today.
Have to agree the Explorer in general ever since its introduction decades ago have not been the fastest sellers in the Rolex range. And would doubt if it will change with the Retro modern version.
