Icon2 Post all the special designed partnerships Rolex done with people and companies.

Let's see if I know all my history of Rolex.

The Rolex Submariner was done with work with Jacques Cousteau so divers had a water resistant watch.

The Rolex Military Submariner was designed with the British Military so military divers had something water resistant and tough.

The Rolex Sea-Dweller was designed with COMEX so divers had a watch that could withstand a hyperbaric chamber unlike the Rolex Submariner.

The Rolex GMT Grand Master 2 was designed with Pan Am so pilots had a watch with different time zones on it.

The Rolex Milgauss was designed with power companies to make an anti-magnetic watch.

Post anymore if you know them.

Well, lets amend the GMT to the MASTER series for Pan Am. The Master II came along way later.

There have been any number of Rolex Ambassadors over the years denoting people who have excelled at their chosen craft.

I'd add the Panama Submariner, The Octopus Sub, any number of double name references such as Tiffany etc..., and the Blue bezel GMT of certain overseas militaries as well as the Omani line.

There is the Dan2010 Submariner LV. It's just like original LV but mine has a slight scratch on the bezel insert denoting its a "special addition anniversary Sub"................

I have heard of Dominos Pizza and some Arab royal family rolex versions. I would appreciate it if anyone can clarify this.

The Dominos Pizza Sub had a uni-directional bezel that counted down to exactly half an hour or the pizza was free.

Discontinued due to increased incidents of speeding and motor vehicle accidents.

I don't see a unidirectional rotating bezel on this watch.

I guess if you have all the money in the world any watch marker will customize a watch for you if you are willing to pay for it.

I don't think any brand or tangible object is sacred when it comes to exclusive customer consumption, i.e. those who can afford to pay to have something unique.

Hopefully I am not offending anyone here by posting this and if I am Mods please delete my post. Through my extensive search trying to understand the 1655 I came across this almost a year ago. This 1655 was commisioned by the Gulf Nation of Oman and from what I have studied they have a very long history together. I am certain there are many pieces you, I, or the many collectors here have not seen...

Now in the very early days of the RWC, Rolex as we know then today they were not in the USA market so Hans from the RWC was approached by Zell Brothers, a major jewellery store chain in the Pacific North West of the USA, headquartered in Seattle. Zell had seen the great success of Rolex in Canada, and in Vancouver in particular (Seattle and Vancouver are only about 150km apart).

They asked to be made the exclusive importer for Rolex in the Pacific North West, and Rolex eager to get a US foot hold accepted their proposal. The strange thing is that, despite the Canadian success either Zell or Rolex decided not to use the now quite famed " New Oyster" name but substituted the name Turtle Timer, (IMHO undoubtedly Zell) Once again these were non-Aegler (non-Rolex) movements, so as not to disturb the three way relationship with Gruen. Zell were much more successful than Abercrombie/Fitch had been, with the Rolex watches but can hardly be described as having made a major market breakthrough.

I have seen just a few pictures of these watches and because they were made when Rolex was using real stainless steel the cases looked to have lasted much better than the A&F ones ever did. But Zells had two major problems as far as Rolex were concerned; firstly they were a regional not national chain and their insistence on using their own Turtle Timer name and not Oyster meant that Rolex would never reap the benefit of the new oyster case success like they did in the UK and Canada Rolex wanted the same in the USA.

So if it was not for the pure marketing genius of Hans Wilsdorf and how the oyster name took off in Europe. You guys across the pond could have been all wearing Rolex Turtle Timer Superlative Chronometers. And now today Rolex producing around 800,000 plus watches a year, and they sell every watch they make. They are now dependent on no single market, one could really say that the world is their OYSTER.(sorry for pun)
