Trying to cheat, you ought to know better Wes.

For that we ought to take all of your Rolex watches away from you.

Say that's a good idea. You can mail them to me at your earliest convenience.

No thats correct sometime in 1919 Wilsdorf did move from England due to very heavy wartime taxes levied on luxury imported goods like watches. And at this time the very heavy export duties on the silver and gold used for the watch cases S.steel was not used then, thus making costs very high.He moved the company to Geneva, where it was reformed as RWC Rolex Watch Company.

I know that Peter but that is the "Official and clean" version.

The real reason was more of a political reason.

That's the point.

Earlier , in 1915 Wilsdorf had to change the name of his company from "Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd" to "The Rolex Watch Company Ltd." for that reason. Wilsdorf was too "German".

From a purely historical perspective, it did become a trend for some European surnames to be changed by UK citizens. King George V, replaced the Royal Family's historic name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor.

But maybe it's time to get back on-topic?

Else, IBTL
