Well we all have fingers for that Ken perhaps they will invent a winder for manual watches,it really must be hard work to manually wind a auto Rolex and reset it a few times a year.Still they have just brought out a voice controlled remote for the TV.But already some are complaining about the effort of speaking to the remote to activate the TV.So now they are working on a remote to operate the voice controlled remote.

I have a 4 position Brookstone winder that is a good value. Runs quite, can be programmed for CW, CCW, or both rotations over a wide variety of turns per day. It sure helps keeping the Tudor Date-Day Jumbo (no quickset feature), as well as my other watches ready to go.

My wife reckons I have four - including ankles, that's when she's being sarky about having too many watches. In terms of the electric powered-kind, I have a dual Wolf which has been very reliable for a number of years now...

I have am "Underwood" Roto-Galbe, it is a single watch winder. Very quiet, not programable but automatically rotates left and right for thirty minutes, for a one hour total. It rests for three hours. Retails for between $500- $600. Quite happy with it!

+1. I've had it with 7 modules (I hope I'm talking about the same one) and haven't had any problems since I got it in July.

Wolf works fine for those times I am away from home. Safe way to keep them ready when I return from long weekends or other trips.

This is for Peter, Ken, and all you other Luddites. I have two Brookstone Quad winders and an Underwood single. All of my 10 automatic watches have one or more complications that become PITAs to have to reset each time they stop. Unlike you people, I only wear one watch at a time. All my others must stay wound so I don't have to reset the multiple complications each time I want to change watches.

BTW, I love the Brookstone Quads. Each has 4 independent winding motors that operate in CW, CCW or bi-directional rotations using multiple programmable sequences. They are very quiet (essentially silent).

But what if one has 20 watches and only 2 wrists. Do you set the watch you are about to wear before leaving the house and leave the rest lying idle?

I know there are 2 primary camps of thoughts - keeping the watch lubricated and ready to be worn in the winder or wind and set the watch whenever on is ready to use it.

I know it is a personal preference for most but what approach is really good for the watch.

I would think it would be better for the watch to let it sit idle if not being used, less wear.

While I would agree Ed they are a convenience with watches with many complications but with a simple date feature no.

Well at one time had over 40 watches in my collection but even then never had the need for any machine to wind my watches. Now have a lot less but again see no need of a winder just let them stop, then wind and reset takes seconds to do.And you will do no harm whatsoever by manually winding and re-setting thats whats the winding crown is for.And the only wear and tear I want on my watches is while they are on my wrist and not stuck on some machine.

There is no right answer. Some people believe it is better to keep the watch running and lubricated; others equally believe it is better to let it sit until you are ready to wear it so that you put less wear on the parts.

Both answers are equally right. Just depends on which camp you are in.
