Question about where to buy my new Rolex

Hi all,

New to the boards. I'm looking at buying a new white dial Explorer II -- about 95% certain.

My wife and I live in Sydney and will be travelling to Hawaii shortly for a little break. I definitely want to buy the watch at an AD -- so my question is, should I buy it at the Sydney AD and claim the GST back when I fly out, or should I buy it in Hawaii (Aussie dollar is very high now).

If anyone has any experience with either that would be great to hear. This is a great board and it's so nice to be able to hear all the various stories from members...

Thanks in advance!

I live in NZ and I know we get fantastic TAX FREE deals. So, if I were you, I'd buy it tax free from an AD in Sydney....and pick up the watch at Sydney airport on the way out.

Good luck - JJ

Thanks for your reply, JJ. Funnily enough, my wife wants to go to NZ next year to visit the Marlborough wine region (we're both big fans of Sauv Blanc). But I'm not sure I can wait that long to get my new Rolex!

Any other Aus or NZ Rolex owners around who have any experiences to share with buying a watch duty free?

I would recommend Monards in Sydney.
You should be able to negotiate a discount on top of getting your watch duty free

I bought my first Omega at J.Farren Price in Sydney, bought my next 2 Omegas and, most recently, my Sub from the Hour Glass in King Street.
I cannot fault both dealers, both were professional and patient and knew what they were talking about.

Welcome to TRF, grm35!

I hope you get a good deal (discount) on the Explorer II

What dial do you want? White or Black Face?

Thanks for the kind welcome! I'm currently coveting the white dial -- and since I've never bought a Rolex brand new I'm going to go for the Z.

Thanks to everyone for all the good advice. I'll be watch hunting next weekend in downtown Sydney!

Im glad you went with the white dial, great choice! There just isnt that many white dial sports model watches out there and to me that what makes it so special. Hope to see some pictures of your new acquisition when you have it!
