My bane: Skinny Wrists

Hi All,
I'm a new member to this forum and automatic watches. Came upon it while shopping for new a new watch. Here is my problem, I am 6' and 165 lbs with a lanky, thin frame. This gives me a wingspan of a 747 and 6.25" wrists.

I like the look of the modern watch styles, but they are much larger than those of more vintage models. Large or thick/tall watches look like I'm trying too hard. I'm interested in acquiring a nice watch for daily professional wear that does not feel or look bulky, with automatic movement with date.
Initially, I was leaning toward an Omega Aqua Terra with 8500 Co-axial movement or an Explorer II, but came across the Rolex Datejust Turn o Graph at the Waikiki Rolex store duing my vacation there last week. They had a black dial with Jubilee bracelet but had pics of my favorite, with a blue dial and oyster bracelet. Most importantly, my wife approved of purchasing one (she is interested in a Cartier Tank or Santos style).

Since I'm a newbee here, can you give me any advice/links to other models I should be interested in (<$5k)?

I'm searching for any ToG (116264) deals in SoCal (San Diego) so let me know if you recommend anyone/place in particular.

Thanks-Pharmboy

Let me know if I want

benison or not.

Explorer 1, 14060m, any datejust and any other Rolex you like.
Who cares if you have slim wrists - if you are happy then so are we all.

Great advice. Find the watch that you like and is comfortable. If you're happy, who cares what the next guys thinks?

36mm Explorer? These can still be had NOS. Very cool watch that would look for daily wear but could be dressed down at the weekend with NATO straps.

Hope you enjoyed your vacation in Hawaii! There are quite a few nice watches to be seen at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center as I'm sure you saw.

I've got small wrists too. But lately, there has been a bit of discussion on WUS about the size of wrists versus the size of the watch case. The consensus seems to be that small wrists + big watch is usually not a problem. I've got 6.25" wrists and can comfortably wear watches up to about 44mm. So I think you can wear whatever you think looks good. If that happens to be the Turn o Graph, I think that's a nice choice and one that you don't see on wrists every day. Good luck in your search for one!

Anything in the 40mm range shouldn't be a problem (as long as it's not too deep a watch). I have slim wrists too. Plenty of Rolexes fit the bill.

Im 5 foot 7 inches, 139 lbs and have 6.25 wrists. I wear 40 mm rolexes without a problem, look great but 41mm and upwards are too big. My AD agrees...and she ought to know because she has been a leader in this branch for many years and is an expert. So I think the same will apply to you..
Good luck,

You also might want to consider a pre-loved 16610 Sub or 16710 GMTII. I think these would fit you and your price range pretty nicely.

I'd recommend any of the new ceramic models or newer model DJ.

The reason for this is... the newer model bracelets can be adjusted shorter in length at the six position compared to the older bracelets. Hence, this would make the watch wear more comfortably on your wrists.

I have a 6.75 inch wrist and find the 93250/91350 (sel and non sel sub bracelet) little uneven. I always to to make it so the clasp would sit center on my wrist. There should always be less links at the six position to get a good fit but with guys with small wrists like ourselves, the watch wears a little funny with the older bracelet/clasps. Some people actually even take out links permanently using tools but it will be impossible to put it back on.

Just my 2 cents.

BTW, I have watches ranging from 36MM to 45MM and they all look fine on the wrist. Go with what you like bro.

I have a 6.5in wrist and find an Omega 42mm is probably the biggest I will go. Im thinking the best dive watch for skinny wristed guys like me is probably one of the newer ceramic models because it only has 3 per links on the 6. My 14060M has 4 perm links and this makes the watch sit awkwardly on my wrist when I want it to sit flush.

There are tutorials around how to remove a permanent link from a bracelet but I am yet to try.

Since you're in San Diego reach out to Tony G (justrolexes) or Jon (legacytime). I have only done a deal with Tony and can personally vouch that my transaction with him was flawless. Tony offered me an incredible price on my TOG! Good luck!

Since you want a date function you picked some nice options.

If the date didn't matter I'd say look at the Explorer1 in both the 36 and 39mm versions.

The TOG and DJ are great watches. Get the one that sings to you. 36mm is classic and timeless no matter what size wrist you have.

Thanks for the replies. My primary choice is the ToG with blue dial with oyster bracelet...if I can find a deal. Also, I'll see how the GMT and E2 (again) looks on me, since they seem more common.

I think I've caught MWS (multiple watch syndrome) as I also like the design/looks of the AT8500 or IWC spitfire pilot.

imho rolex fit skinny people best. because they dont change in size. you can go 36mm datejust or the 40mm sports model.

im asian and not considered tall. but 40mm suit me fine.

you can also do some body building its easy just keep eating!

I have a muy macho watch wearing wrist of 6.6 something inches.....but....when puffy & sweaty(a pretty picture, no?) an impressive 6.75"!!!!
I prefer 36-42mm diameter, 40-48mm case length.

I like your thinking on a TOG. Also the Oyster Date is 34mm and can be found quite reasonably. Same movement as DJ the 3135 and an outstanding watch, the model is 15200. Those can be found NIB for just under $4K, and used a five year old Rolex for under $3K. Everyone is looking for "a deal"; however, you usually get what you pay for and the trusted dealers are attune to what watches sell for.

You can probably feel comfortable wearing an Oyster Perpetual 36mm, Date 34mm, Air-King 34mm, DateJust 36mm, Explorer (114270) 36mm, Explorer (214270) 39mm, a Submariner (14060M) 40mm, with ease.

Any of these would be an excellent choice and none has what I would call a bulky case.

What a nice reply directioneng.

Pharmboy, I have skinny wrists too. ~6.5".
I'm thinking of an Explorer I for myself. Just for grins. How cool to have a Mt. Everest watch...closest point on earth to the moon. Good excuse to go with my Moon Watch Speedy Pro. Any excuse to justify my addiction ;)

ANYWAY...I have a 36mm Datejust and I still love it after almost 30yrs. Think you will like one on you too.

Here's some posts w/ pics for reference of my Datejust and GMT on my bone:

Skinny wrists? I would call your wrists "pretty ordinary" and more typical than not. As to wearing a Rolex, just pick the one you really like best. I'm a big fan of TOG's (espcially the older bezel) and don't think you can go wrong with that choice, but if you prefer the look of a Sub or ExpII, buy it.

IMO, unless you're obsessive about things, the difference between 6" wrists and 7.5" wrists is not very important in the look of a Rolex.

Good call on the TOG

I have 6.5" wrists and the TOG fits great. It's a substantial watch and feels heavy with the solid bracelet and beefed up case.

I like it better than the Explorer 114270 for smaller wrists because the TOG bracelet allows you to have 4 links on the 6 o'clock side. Doing this centers the clasp on your wrist.

But at 39mm you could also look at the newest Explorer. It also has the solid bracelet and will allow 4 links on the 6 o'clock side. Used ones are right around $5000

Erm.... Is it not Rolex's best seller? That's one hell of an underdog! Has David been at the steroids?!?

I know what you mean on this forum, though, they don't get as much love as the sports models.

Pharmboy, my wrist size is pretty close to yours. You probably already figured this out but the width of the case is not the only determining factor if the watch will "fit" you or not. The largest diameter watch that I have is a 42mm, Omega Planet Ocean. I think this is generally about 2mm too large for me. But what makes this watch somewhat uncomfortable for me to wear is the fact that it's thick and the heavy as well. Now when I throw on the GMT IIc, it's only 2 mm smaller but the height and shape of the case, plus the lighter bracelet, makes it much more comfortable to wear. I even have an Aqua Terra in 39.2mm, and although smaller in size than the GMT IIc, it still doesn't fit my wrist as nicely as the GMT IIc.

With all this said, my new favorite line of watches is the Datejust series. Fits small wrists perfectly. Dial choices, bezel choices, bracelet choices, metal choices and size choices. What is there not to love about the Datejust series? The Turn-o-graph is an awesome watch. Do a search in the "For Sale" section for the user named eelpie. I think they have the exact TOG you are looking for. Good luck and let us know on what you eventually decide.

I am same size as you and really any of the Rolex lineup would fit and feel fine on you. The 40mm watches fit fine I adjust them to have 4 links on the six o'clock side and they all wear well. Even the DSSD when fitted properly is a very comfortable daily wearer.

I would look at the 40mm sport line as any would be fine, IMO
