Datejust Question . . .
A good friend of mine has a Datejust he inherited from his father. It's a 1984/86 model. I'm pretty sure it's TT. He wants to sell it to me for $1200. If I get it I will have to send it in for service and this will more then likely run me another $600-800. I've seen the watch and it seems to be in good condition. He wears it all the time and says it runs fine. He's looking or the box and papers, but he's not sure if he has them. I'm new to the Rolex obsession having just bought a GMT ll 16710 LN, so I am seriously thinking about adding this to my new collection. Is this a good deal?

Price looks very good.
You think it is a TT? I take it you haven't seen it yet? Do you have any pix?

Price seems reasonable even with the service that you will have to pay for.

I've seen it. It may be 14k gold. If It is then I know it's definitely worth it. I'll ask him tomorrow. I want to know if it's a good deal if it's just TT.

I have the same watch and paid $2200 for it with unknown (I'm sure NO) service history, so yes, that is a good deal.

For either gold, SS or TT it's a good deal, don't mess around and just send it out for service and it'll be good for a decade

What a shame your friend is selling the watch he inherited. I would never do such a thing.

But, if you don't grab it, someone will. That's a good price. If you've seen it, you should know that TT is Two Tone; Stainless Steel and Yellow Gold (SS/YG). Also, my Datejust from the same era (1984) is 18K. Regardless, I'd pick it up if all else seems well (no gouges in case or crystal, etc). Don't sweat the box/papers at that price. If you think it's the real deal, after reading what others have posted, it should be on your wrist by the time you see this post. |
