I stole this from another forum (HONESTY

) but thought it was funny and wanted to share it here.

Top 5 Reasons Why NASA Will Never Flight Qualify a Rolex

1. NASA would be put on a three year waiting list when attempting to buy a Rolex for qualification testing from a Rolex AD in Houston.
2. The Rolex AD would then tell NASA that Rolex is introducing a new model of the watch the following year.
3. Buying the watches and then giving them to the astronauts would be "intervention by a third party" and void the Rolex USA warranty.
4. The astronauts would be unsure about what they should do with the holograms.
5. Despite NASA's effort to tape, nail polish, and plastic wrap the Rolex watches, the astronauts would scratch them.

Actually i saw in an other forum a thread where one guy was explaining why nasa didn't equip their astronauts with rolex. Nasa did some tests with omega and rolex watches and omega watches were more qualified. Actually omega didn't lose and second when they tested the watch at huge G forces. The rolex movement broke down when they tested the watch at huge G forces. The rolex watch that nasa used was the daytona cause astronauts need a very good chronograph. I dont remember all the details that the guy mentioned but i am going to find the thread to provide you so that i can provide you with more information. Correct if i am wrong cause i don't know much about the reasons that nasa rejected rolex watches i am just mentioning what somebody said

Yup, there was a thread about it here about a month ago. Cannot find it, though, but I seem to remember reading this in the links provided, too.

The Omega Speedmaster was the most reliable watch at that time.
Automatic or winder, I can imagine an automatic one would not wind too well or in fact keep going all the time?
Maybe for breaking down if wound 24/7?

Offtopic but on the same "NASA using specific companies or items", they were buying old 486 Intel CPU's because supposedly it was the only processor that could withstand space radiation so what they did was putting them all together to get a higher frequency.
Don't know the complete story, if anybody knows more...

Something about astronauts wearing GMT's in private ("of the record" so to speak) and also preferred bringing GMT's as private belongings on space trips although Omega was the *official* timekeeper?
