Why do I prefer the old GMT II?

Am I the only one that prefers the old GMT II?

I bought a GMT II in 2005 and wear it as an everyday watch. It's brilliant. Comfy to wear, easy to read, perfectly proportioned and stays looking great year after year. But I've always thought it could do with a chunkier crown like the Sub, and maybe a heavier clasp.

So the new GMTIIc might be the dream watch? But for me, no.

Thinking it might be time for a change soon I tried one on at my local AD recently but, IMO, the maxi case and the new bezel pump the watch up out of it's once perfect proportions. And the bracelet now looks too thin and doesn't flow neatly away from the case.

I suppose Rolex needed to answer the call for bigger watches and achieved it like this? It seems popular to some but to me .....

Or is it just me?

Love my Pepsi. Would never part ways with it, but that's because it's sentimental but also 'cause I love it!

I thought I was into the gmt-c but found myself looking at a 16710 coke for some reason. Not sure why but the coke has been screaming very loud.

After owning a 116710 I can say that the watch grew to become a favorite. Mind you I flipped the 116710 once because of the case dimensions and came back. It's no replacement for the 16710 (one of my favorites) as I think they're entirely different watches except for function.

IMO the GMT II is more useable day to day (in particular no polished centre links) and has the perfect case proportions (same as old Sub Date). I particularly like the fact that you can inter-change the bezel inserts. The Ceramic bezel looks too busy with the numbers through to 22 whereas the bezel inserts on the older model look more balanced. Again just an opinion but I believe the GMT II (particularly 16710) is an under-appreciated model right now. At the right age, you can get one with lug-holes and the SEL bracelet.

i've always preferred the 16710. when i tried the 116710, i found the thicker case a bit unnecessary. it serves no purpose and merely weighs down the wrist.

I have to admit I purchased the newer version first, but the older one kept tugging at my heart strings. I think they both have something great to offer personally.

I am the opposite, I started with the older style GMT and loved it, saw the new model and just fell for it in a big way.

Nostalgia got me wanting an odler version aswell which I eventually got (pepsi aswell) and within days realised it just wasn't for me! no going back now I have the GMT IIc

to each his own i guess

I have to say, I absolutely love the bold fonted look of the ceramic version - it reminds me of my YachtMaster bezel, which is my personal favorite Rolex sports model. However I'm not a fan of the green accent.

If thy ever offer a ceramic Pepsi/Coke/LN with te red second hand, I will be in a big predicament. See, I definitely want a GMT for my next piece, and I love the bolder look of the ceramic version, but being able to switch bezels on the prior GMT Master to give it several different looks is so tempting... Such a fantastic, versatile watch. I look at it as being the best bang for your buck because you can switch it up so easily.

I love my GMT Pepsi. I am actually thinking about trading in my 16710 for a 1675. Kind of having a hard time contemplating selling my 16710 but will get a birth year 1675 so that might be more special.

I prefer the older GMT myself. That's why I flipped this:

for this:

but I did take it a step further with this:

I found I had no use for the movable bezel and needed something a bit larger.

Variety is the spice of life

I don't think it's necessarily a battle between the old and the new. Personally I love both. I enjoy my Pepsi, especially in the summer months, and feel like it's one of those watches that will never leave the collection; it's just that special.

In the submariner world, I own and enjoy (in no special order) the 14060, SeaDweller 4000 and the DSSD. Each model seems to have its own "niche" and I can't say that I really prefer one over another. I really enjoy the process of selecting the watch for the day or for a special event. It's great to be able to choose between something cutting edge or something with a bit more history and to be able to select different levels of "heft". Just MHO.

I have a 1675 and a 1675/3 that I love. I also owned a GMTIIC for about a year. I really liked the ceramic bezel but the case lugs I never got used to. I would wear it during the day and then at night I would switch to the older models. So much more comfortable for me. I saw a new Explorer II in the flesh the other night and it looks very tempting.
