Sub-C Arrival...Finally :)

Well, today I purchased my Sub-C 116610LN from another member of the forum. He was kind enough to drive 3.5 hours down and 3.5 hours back just to complete the transaction. Great guy, smooth transaction. "Who's Who" thread soon to come.

Anyway, last month I picked up my first Rolex, a Y serial 16610. I'm sorry to say, it fell short of my expectations. This Sub-C, however, fixes every complaint I had about the 16610. I am blown away. It's is everything I hoped the Sub 16610 would have been.

And now, the wrist shots ;) I am 5'6 with a 6.25in wrist. I always stayed in the 38.5mm range until my first 40mm Sub. I thought it fit well, but was a bit nervous about going to the Sub-C with supercase. However, I am very happy with the fit. For me, the Sub-C has phenomenal wrist presence without being over the top. Anything larger and the lugs would hang over my wrist.

Very nice. I think the size works for you. My wrist is 6.25" as well and I think the Sub C looked just fine (size-wise) when I tried it on.

Oh - and I'm one of those folks that think a Sub or GMT look great with a suit.

The Sub-C should have a club of its own, as it is in a different league as previous generations ;) Regardless, as soon as I get a decent pic I'll see you over there

Ha, ha...let me guess...did it have to do with a clasp, maybe a metal bezel insert and possibly markers/hands that seemed just a little too small and didn't seem to have enough lume to truly glow bright enough at night?

Seriously, congrats on a stunning watch and glad you didn't bail on the Sub after your 16610 experience. I use to laugh at all the backlash of the SubC when it first came out and all I could think was, "What are these guys smoking...how could you NOT be thrilled with the improvements?!?!"

If I heard one more rationale about the 16610's clasp to the effect of, "Well it's been proven to work for X amount of years..." or "The new clasps have way too many parts to be reliable..." I was going to puke. I think the 16610 is a great watch, but NOBODY will EVER convince me the clasp is on par with the rest of that bullet-proof watch...PERIOD! When you can literally pinch the safety latch between your fingers to adjust how tight it locks (due to how thin the metal is), you've got a serious issue IMO. That's not what I expect on ANY watch over $500...let alone in the thousands of $ range.

Enjoy your SubC.

Enjoy your SubC.
I have been an Omega owner for years. The first time I ever held a Submariner I was sure it was fake. At best, a real head on a fake bracelet. I was quite disappointed when I found out that's the bracelet Rolex actually chose to use for the Sub. I told myself I'd get over it when I decided to purchase one. However, I simply couldn't stand it. It felt so vastly inferior to my Omega that I was disappointed every time I put it on my wrist. The other main complaint that I had was the cyclops. It's there to enhance readability, but I could hardly ever read it. The lack of anti-reflective coating was a deal breaker. It just seemed silly that I could read the date on my AT with no magnification but had to catch the right angle to read the date on my Sub. I flipped my 16610 in four days.

Fortunately, this Sub-C is a completely different watch. In photos, I thought the dial markers looked too big, the lugs too wide, and the whole watch out of proportion. However, in my hand or on my wrist, it looks perfect. Now that I'm used to the 116610, the proportions and taper of the 16610 just look feminine. I cannot express how happy I am with this new Sub. It really is what I always thought a Sub would be.

If I ever go back to a classic sub it'll be a 14060M on a NATO strap as a beater. Other than that, it's Sub-C for me.
