What if...

Rolex decided to make a platinum SDDS? Do you think it would sell?

Selling and being a profitable endeavour are two different things. Yes I'm sure someone somewhere would probably buy it.

Don't think it will happen and would be a tough sale IMHO.

Because platinum would preserve the whole steel/tool look of the watch. Diamonds on a SDDS? Nah, I'll pass on that.

Well its doubtful if anyone would want to use a extremely expensive Platinum watch as a tool watch thats why they are made from mainly S.Steel.

That's true. But what's the percentage of us that actually use our watches for what they were intended for?

I imagine some with plenty of money would buy one but I would prefer buying a few Rolexes with the money it would cost just to buy that one DSSD!!!

To echo posts above. Such a soft metal would defeat the purpose of this watch. You might as well bling it out with diamonds and stick some neon light tubes on it while your at it. I'd pass on a platinum version.

I would say we all use them for their intended purpose, i.e., to tell the time.

Isn't platinum heavy? It could replace weight belts?

Well myself most certainly did to tell the time and use both Subs and SDs underwater and spent more hours under than I can remember.

Titanium would be interesting. Not sure that I'd prefer the look...but is intriguing to think about. It would help a lot with the weight, that's for sure.
