TAG Boutique? Is this the wave of the future?

I was once again at the Mall at Millenia (Orlando) this weekend, I had to go to Mayor's Rolex boutique to get a link taken out of my Sub C (I have lost 150 pounds). Just below the Rolex boutique I see a sign "Coming Soon Tag/Heuer boutique". Now I know that Omega is opening a boutique in that mall sometime this summer but this is the first I have seen a Tag boutique? Nearly every large department store sells Tag, how can they stop that?

Tag's are nice enough watches, I guess. I have owned one previously but I cannot imagine a boutique or that brand. Are these swiss watch companies trying to keep all the business for themselves now? Squeezing their dealer channel out?

You'd think with all these stores opening the economy would be rockin like 2006, I can't figure it out

I mean, how many watchyes can you sell in one day compared to the rent at a major mall, employees, etc...

In the long run I think the number of stores open have actually been reduced in the states. But this makes sense since les watches are being shipped to the states and they aare being sold elsewher.Big dealers like Tourneau and Mayors actually run the boutiques for Rolex that I am aware of. So I don't think it cost Rolex anything. This has been the way things have been going for awhile now. Some independant and chains like Jareds have lost their AD status, and boutiques are replacing some of them. Yes a number of brands are already doing this in the states, and probably elsewhere. The boutique gives the manufacture greater control over things like how their product is displayed and priced.

Thanks for the positive comments on my weight loss. I tried on a gold GMT IIC and declared it to be my present to myself when I retire in a few years but then it struck me that I would probably have to have $3,000 worth of gold removed because the bracelet is way too big.

I did buy myself a new TT DJ II last week so let's call that my watch to celebrate my weight loss :)

One of the Rolex AD's I frequent is selling all their Tag stock at a 45% discount.

This is probably the future here in the US and the developed world. With China and Asia being the high volume markets to absorb watch production and maintain the manufacturing economies of scale in Switzerland, the large expansive AD marketing model is being abandoned. I guess the manufacturers have figured out that if they cut the expense of the dealer network and concentrate sales in a boutique marketing system, in the end, the higher profits on fewer but higher margin sales will net them the same or more profit in the market with a lot less hassle and long term liability.

If any of TRF members owned one of these manufacturers, we would be doing the same thing. Rolex, Patek, JLC etc.... Are not in the business to maximize the number of their watches in the world but rather to maximize their profits for a given level of productive effort!

Congrats on the weight loss... It's a hell of an accomplishment to change your lifestyle enough to get results like that.
