Rolex and alcohol.

I use a website where people post lots of pictures of things (wont give the name as I dunno if I'm allowed to).

Well I've seen a few pictures on there recently of people putting their Rolex in alcohol and posting pictures. I saw a sub that had been completely submerged in champagne a while back and I've just seen a DJII half immersed in some whisky and ice.

Is there any problem with doing this ? I imagine alcohol isn't the friendliest of substances and it's not like Rolex's were built to come into contact with them. Don't get me wrong it makes for a great picture though.

Never do that! Your Rolex could get tipsy and you could see the second hand going slowly and backwards!

Rolex watches are made to be water resistant to at least 100m (for the non divers' watches, that is), therefore the liquid in which they are submerged isn't really important. All you need to do is make sure the watch is indeed water resistant because with time the parts that prevent water from going in the movement can get used and damaged, which makes them less good in terms of protection!

The new ones are waterproof so need to worry about them. The older ones may have compromised gaskets so I would not try that. Just to be on the safe side, you may run it under some water to wash out any undesirable residue.

Not ENTIRELY true. There are liquids that have a smaller molecular makeup than H2O and the watch wouldn't hold up to same depths. But things like liquid hydrogen aren't too common to find yourself swimming in...so you don't have to worry!

Thank you for that correction! And here I was, standing here and about to take a picture of my Rolex submerged in a glass of fine liquid hydrogen! You just saved me a trip to RSC kind sir!

The biggest danger is that the consumption of alcohol may cause the unintended purchase of a Rolex. That and, don't dunk it in liquid hydrogen.

Don't drink and horse with your Rolex. Nothing good can come for it.

I don't think there's any danger to it.

Putting it in a liquid that is highly corrosive to rubber could potentially be harmful though, as it would eat away the gaskets/seals.

I feel the majority of scratches and dings are a result of mixing the two........
