Replace hands on a TudorSub 7928 (y/n)
Should I replace the hands on my Tudor Submariner-7928...? Yes or No.
It seems like it would clean up the watch a little, the 1966 hands are well aged compared to the dial.., your thoughts...

Keep for as long as you can! If something happens to the hands like the lume cracks and breaks off, consider a repair or replacement then. You have it all original and looks great.

You might need to get them sealed to keep the tritium from falling out even more.

If they can be sealed that would be great. Either way, keep 'em!

I say replace them ....
I'm a big fan of heavily aged vintage watches - they can (sometimes) look great.
Foe me though, the patina has to be even across the plots, hands and insert, What you have there though is a lightly aged, rather nice watch, just let down by knackered hands IMO. Your call though friend - still looks good as it is |

Get new hands and by new I mean old tritium hands that more or less match the dial and have no lume flaking.
Now being a purist myself, I say keep the old hands in a safe place so that you can exchange them back any time you feel. |

Leave them as is unless replacement is necessary... Its an old Sub and they are only "Original" once. Also, I feel that all Vintage watches show different wear patterns and that's what makes them unique!
Enjoy your Sub it looks fantastic!

my 02
i'm sorry, but same as a block of moldy cheese in my refrigerator, i'd get them relumed. If you want to have it both ways, get a set of replacment hands, keep the originals for their "wabi", and get the replacement hands lumed to match the dial lume's patina
there are folks doing em that can match the patina of the dial perfectly - i just couldn't enjoy looking at those hands on my wrist same as looking at the moldy cheese in my refrig here's a shot of a 7016 that i had completely redialed and the hands to match - i asked for the patina of a wad of chewing tobacco and that's what i got (yeah, there's an error on the dial but i'm going to have em redone) Shane Eade up in Toronto did that one for me, and i know the guy he sent it to - trust me, the dial guy is nuts but shane knows how to talk to him or what to say and he's pretty reasonable |
