Heathrow Or Hong Kong

Looking to get a new GMT2 on my trip but dont know if I should get one duty free in the UK or wait until I get to Hong Kong. Next question is if Hong Kong is the place does anyone know where I should go?

don't know any places in HK, but if you're leaving from Heathrow then check the prices before you depart.

While in HK compare their prices to Heathrow's and go for the better deal. good luck.

Many AD's in HK, just go to TST, Central or Causeway Bay. Bargain and see which one will give you the best price (although all will likely be pretty close).

I've recently noticed deals on Rolexes aren't what they used to be in HK.

I got a deal in HK a few years ago on a Sea-Dweller just but walking down Nathan Road and telling each of the AD's that I went into that the last one offered me x% off. In the end I got a discount of 12%. I wouldn't have got that in the UK. I'm not too sure now though

Yeah fat chance of 12% nowadays with the mainland Chinese buying everything in stock.

Very true! All jokes aside the mainland might be building a monopoly on Rolex acqusitions both modern and vintage! What we consider a hobby in horological collecting they consider a way of life. Forget about 12% you're better off calling Tony, Oscar, David, or Greg.

The Republic of TRF is the best place to buy a Rolex-Tudor-Cellini.

I am going through Heathrow Terminal 5 about 20 times a year

For the past 3 years...NOT ONCE...have I seen a GMT-II-C or
any other "real" sport model available at Mappin & Webb the
official Rolex AD at Heathrow.
Plenty of slow selling Rolex "bones" always available.
But I repeat.....never seen (ever) the Rolex "filet mignion" for sale there.

I would think the AD's in TST would have more flexibility to offer (bigger) discounts. Btw, TST stands for Tsim Sha Tsui, which is on the Kowloon side of HK.

Heathrow is cheaper...

due to the tax free price being 16.666% off, which you won't get close to in Hong Kong on such a popular model. As an unknown customer you won't get better than 8% off in Hong Kong on a GMT. The Deepsea is not such a popular model in Asia due to its size and the more slender wrist of the asian population.

Also if you buy fromWatches of Switzerland in terminal 3 or Mappin & Webb in 5 you will get some local customer service should you need it. My experience in Hing Kong dealers is patchy. One Rolex/Tudor dealer twice refused to arrange a repair under warrantee as "we only sell the watches". After I kicked up a fuss they did, but didn't seem to know how to fill out the repair paperwork.

But the above point is valid, you won't find one easily. Maybe you can order one in to the store?

Most AD's in HK will give you 5% discount but I don't think the boutique's in Department stores like Sogo will give a discount though.

The current exchange rate is £1 = HK$12.10, when I was there last month for example a Sub 14060M RRP HK$49,000 with the 5% discount at the current exchange rate would have cost £3847 cheaper the RRP £4190 in the UK.
Hopefully someone here can tell you the price of a GMT2 in HK so you can compare.

The watch prices are cheaper in Heathrow's duty free but the Rolex sports watches are hard to come by.
I suggest you Email them (Genres_collect@baa.com) to see if they have any in stock and if you get lucky reserve one for yourself.
