What is the quintessential rolex?

In your opinions what is the quintessential Rolex. It may be more than one, but make sure you describe it/them specifically.
Such as a GMT Pepsi
Or YG DayDate with white dial and roman numerals etc.

post pictures too what the heck!

I'll admit my bias up front - I love the SD. Having said that, I'd say either the two-tone DJ or the Sub.

Sub! Either with or without a date, black and SS, followed closely by the TT and LV Subs. But, IMO it is the most recognizable for just about everyone!

I like the sports models, sub, gmt, ect. But the most quintessential and copied/mimicked Rolex ever has to be the DJ

I have to answer that question by breaking it down into two categories: Sports model and dress watch. For Sports model - SS Sub with black bezel. For Dress watch - YG Day Date.

Just about any Rolex screams quality and has a timeless feel to it - except the YM II.

I agree with you Michael, about the YM II. That is probably the worst example

We are thinking about the Clownmaster, right? Just being precise here, the traditional, if you will, TT Yachtmasters look great! The only watch I like a MOP dial on... Call me slow.

Do some of you know what QUINTESSENTIAL means!!!

For QUINTESSENTIAL it has to be the:

-Black Sub or
-YG DayDate or
-YG DateJust

Anything else does not embody the word QUINTESSENTIAL!

Quote:
From Dictionary.com:

quintessential is the adjective form of the word:

quin·tes·sence –noun
1. the pure and concentrated essence of a substance.
2. the most perfect embodiment of something.

I will put my vote in for the ss sub (14060 or 16610) and the TT DJ. That's what people think when they think Rolex

Whoa! Oh, Yeah! And, I also love that Daytona 116509 pictured above with the very striking red second hand, and, red sub-dial detail. Now, if only Rolex would finally make the Daytona with a date window!

Although it might not be the most TYPICAL Rolex, James Dowling in his book "The Best of Time" writes in the chapter about the SEA-DWELLER that this is the "quintessential" Rolex. And "quintessential" is exactly the word James Dowling uses.

It might not have the cyclops, but it sure has many of Rolex patent incorporated in it, so I would tend to agree.

Stroke your WATCH?

I would have expected that the women would stroke the top of your head

I mean: JJ must have received that "stroke-on-top-of-the-head-compliment" for his TT Blue Sub a LOT of times judging from the pics of him. All hair has gone due to the many complementing strokes.
