What I would have preferred from Rolex in an annual calendar... Ref 8171

Something more like the Triple Date Moon Phase (Ref 8171)... more classic, maybe a little more dressy. I think that would have been a real winner!

I needed a new one based on these icons, a moonphase trip date and trip date chrono, period! If they could fit them out with a perpetual calendar, all the better.

Check out both these vintage ones here

Really? I think that looks like a great watch from 50 or 60 years ago.

I think the Sky Dweller looks like a great, current Reference.

Obviously, I would expect that they would update the look considerably. Maybe something like this, with a 24 hour hand added.

Fair enough, but I don't think anyone's going to buy a Rolex like that vs. that actual beautiful PP. I think the Sky Dweller looks uniquely Rolex. Even with the reputation they have, I have never had an interest in Patek's, nothing about them sings to me. If the SKD was a model like that PP, I surely wouldn't consider it for a moment. As it is now, if the SKD comes with YG Romans, it will be on my wrist as soon as it's released here in the US.

I don't know... at $40k+, I'm buying a PP for that money that I don't have.

Its a classy watch, still, for me Rolex is all about sport models. Moon phases and calendars are for the top 1 tier manufacturers imo.

Actually, Frederique-Constant makes a fine moonphase for under $2k. They are converting to in house movements. A fashion watch, yes, but quite nice.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of the SKD.

It's not about what has been done already, but about stretching the limits of possibility.

Those calendar watches are magnificent and Rolex could have done that without much effort at all.

What they have done is to create a watch with similar function, but with infinitely more utility and ease of use.

The SKD is meant to be used on the fly without much ado or extraneous accoutrements and they have done so magnificently.

If you want annual calendars like the ones above, they are done very, very well by others.

Nice but looks very old and dated as its a 60 year old watch. The setup is ok. I like the sky dweller more today than yesterday though.

If they had put the 24 hr ring on that watch we would have had a winner for sure
