Has anyone tried on the newer 42mm SO?

I was in having a look at the Breitling offerings at an AD, it has been a while since my last visit. I looked at the SO 42mm and thought it looked real small, after putting it on, it looked even smaller. The oversized bezel with the large chapter ring makes that watch look very small.
I wish they would get away from that type of design, I have 42mm watches that would dwarf that watch.
Is there a functional reason for this? I'm unaware of any that would keep them making watches that have that small dial look to their timepieces.

Not sure what the rational is behind the newer, smaller appearing face size SO's. Breitling regularily changes the designs of their watches. I have a 2004 42 mm SO that I really like, but am not a fan of the new designs.

Interestingly enough my Sub C LV at 40 mm appears to be larger (in diameter) than the 42 mm SO. I'm not sure what illusion is in place to cause this (color or possibly thickness maybe) but to me its quite noticable when the watches are placed side by side.

I just wonder if the newer SO's will keep the value like the older models do?

As far as an entry level or mid range luxury watch, they are priced resonably low when new (compared to Rolex & even Omega) however they do not seem to maintain a lot of resale value or desirabilty for buyers in the used watch market. This is unfortunate, as Breitling does make a quality product.

They do make a great watch, I've owned several of them and they ooze quality just by the feel on the wrist.

I tried out both the 42 and 44 SO at my AD. I came home with the 44 because the 42 felt small and I've never looked back. The 44 wears great and doesn't look huge imo, I think after a couple weeks you won't even notice the difference and if you go back to try to 42 on again, it'll feel really small.

Yup, I agree. The 42mm SO looked really small on my wrist and I only have a 7" wrist.

Well, I took the plunge and bought a 44 from an AD outside my city. The AD here wasn't willing to move too much on the price. I got it for an awesome price plus free polishing for life. If it has to go to Breitling for anything, they cover the shipping for me. I thinks I dun did good. It will be here on Friday. I bought the one with the orange sweep and logo. I'm really pumped.
Is the lug width 22mm on this watch? I forgot to ask but I'm sure it is. I'd like to get a leather strap as well.

Congrats on a great choice and you must have good taste because that's the exact one I picked!

Yes, I do believe the SO44 has a 22mm lug width on it, because I bought a 46mm Breitling that was a 24mm lug width, so you should be good.

Enjoy the new time piece!
