Thinking of changing

I've a 15210 oyster date that i bought after the death of my father 6 years ago.

As you can see I've also got an Explorer II which I bought about 4 years ago as I've 2 sons and felt that leaving my old van to my youngest son wouldn't be fair when his older brother got a Rolex.
Anyway, the Date gets zero wrist time, which is a shame as it's a lovely watch.
I was thinking of selling it and putting the money to another Rolex, maybe something bigger, which may get to see the light of day more than it's predecessor.
What are your thoughts bearing in mind that these watches will go to my sons but also that I must like the new one as they really need to get equal wrist time.

I would sell the DJ & buy something you would wear...

A GMT would be the same functioning watch, but a different look or a sub is my shout. Bear in mind though if your boys both like a particular one in years to come then there could be arguments.

I was thinking the same thing and honestly the explorer isn't my favorite but with 2 sons I would try to be as equal as possible.

As suggested; If not the black Explorer, then a Sub or GMT.
Having two sports/tool watches, puts them on a more level playing field for the sons to wrestle over.

They might fight over the dial color. Why not just tell them what you have in mind, and let them choose. Maybe one of them wants the blue one after all.

If the watch doesn't have any special meaning and it's not worn, I'd trade it in for an 16610 Sub.

I've thought about the black Exp II but I prefer the GMT II to be honest as I think the black bezel is better on the black dial than the steel.
A sub is a good shout. My eldest son, who would get the replacement, will be a very big lad (6' 4"+) and I think the Date would just be too small for him. It's just about OK on me (I'm 6'2).
I love the new EXP II but that would be out of my price range. Which is a shame.

I've wrestled with the same issue as I have two sons. The whole idea of trying to buy something that will be substantially equal, etc. drove me nuts.

Ultimately, I think the answer is to sell or trade the watch that you don't wear and just replace it with something that you will wear. Time worn on the wrist is what will make the watch something that they will cherish later, not necessarily whether it is equal in value now.

The value of the watches has never been an issue. However your point about them seeing me wear it is very valid and one i hadn't thought about. Yes, i'd like a piece that i wore more than the Date but actually being seen on my wrist is definitely important., i think.
I'm definitely going black dial. Either a Sub, GMT or Milgauss.

Just a quick update. It appears the boy doesn't like the date function which left the. Milgauss, Explorer and Sub in my price range.
The Sub has won hands down.
Give me a couple of months and i'll be back with some pictures.
