So, here's the deal. I have a rather large tax refund coming to me. Before knowing that, I had allocated a large amount of money towards a driveway and landscaping updates (sprinkler system, redo grass, etc.).

Would you apply the tax refund towards the work (effectively cutting the costs in half) and call it a day or get a new watch? (keeping in mind that the money for the work has already been allocated)

Can't wait to hear the responses.

I personally would fix up the house. Watches only come for me after my house cars boat and vacations. Guess that's why I only have 2 and I'm waiting to pick up an AP.... If you are single get the watch.

sounds like you have quite a nice collection of watches. personally, i would put some money towards the landscaping and then get another watch in the future.

As much as I would like to say a watch, I would probably get the house in order first. But, yes, it's a tough call.

I am a house before watch guy. It is your home, that kind of family stuff comes way before my little watch hobby.

I could have purchased another watch with my refund, but I just painted my house. That along with a couple of other projects is really eating my refund away, but it is money well spent.

Sprinkler system bah humbug. Go to lowes and spend a fifty spot on a hose and sprinkler spout. Get the watch and 20 years from now you will not be sorry.

If you've gotten the landscaping financed, you are better off putting the money toward it. Continue to pay on the landscaping with the same amount of money you allocated for it. Of course, it will be paid off sooner. Once it's payed off, continue with that same amount of money going into a "Rolex fund". At the time you originally would have had the landscaping paid off, buy the watch. Since you're in Jersey, and if you are going to buy a new watch from AD, drive down to Delaware and purchase it.

I may have not explained my situation correctly. I literally have the cash to pay for all of the work being done (set aside cash = allocated, bill is already paid, etc.). Therefore, the tax refund is "gravy". I can put the tax refund back into my account thus shrinking the cost of the work (in my mind

). Or I can choose to spend the "gravy".

Love all of the responses thus far.

I suppose I was trying to get a sense of what other people would do if they had additional money that came unexpectedly.

Kyung I don't know if you're married or not. If you are, unless your wife is another WIS I'd get the house work done first. Besides, if you do this, you will have more time to save up for your next watch (assuming you need to anyways) and there will be no resistance from the wife when the time comes. Happy wife happy life.
