Spotting fakes
The best way to know a fake is to know the real thing. ANYTHING else is a fake.
Post your links here that address what is real and what is fake! here is mine: http://suissewatchservice.com/closelook.html |

For Fake Rolex Sports Models you clearly need to look at the crown guards and the size of the winding crown. If you look at many of the forums members long enough then you will know a Real Rolex without ever going to an AD. If you don't want the pressure of just researching in an AD then go to a Pawn Shop that advertises selling genuine Rolex then you can try them on and notice the weight.

gary123 that sticker is commonly used in Japan and does appear as standard on many authentic Rolex watches.

Hi Gary. As Steve said, that's a Japanese market sticker. Here are a couple of links with more info.

I have a couple of links, but I only use them sparingly, these days, and only if really needed to determine if a SPECIFIC watch in question is fake or genuine (which would be in the WatchOut section). IMHO, there's no need feeding fakers lurking here.

While these sites are good for their info, I feel they are a little out of date being I have seein replica's with "real" looking hologram stickers, I have also seen them with the gaskets around the tube of the crown. It was a submariner I saw and I compared it with mine in every way, it was almost perfect. Now I could still tell as their are little tricks I use or just pop the back off to look at the move... even the laser etched crown in the crystal it had.. I feel everyone of those sites posted is very much out of date because there are super fakes out their now and they are not more than $200 usd..

Well Tardis, I must say I was impressed by that link. The replica actually looked better than the real IMHO. I hope i don't get flamed by saying this.

Guys, best way to tell about a Submariner rep is:
1. Cyclops magnification. 2. 'Pearl' on the bezel. 3. Crown guards. 4. Font on the Dial. ['m' in 300m should be right above the "m" in chronometer]: 1000ft=300m SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER 5. Hands on the LV (Green Sub) should be like the 16622's "Maxi" hands aka Fat not the thin ones the other subs have. 6. Bezel teeth. 7. Crown (too big/fat = fake) 8. Bezel Clicks (should have 120). 9.Crown Engraving (YM's should have the Triplock -the crown has 3 small dots underneath). On the Yacht-Master (Ref. 16622...) 1. Cyclops magnification (some fakes have either too low mag or too much). 2. The hands are the most obvious tell (Some fakes have the Non-Fat hands). 3. Crown Guards (some fakes have huge CG). 4. Crown (again, too big/fat/small/thin = Fake) 5. Bezel Clicks (should have 120). 6. Red "Yacht-Master" font (Gens have thick red font). 7. Crown Engraving (YM's should have the Triplock -the crown has 3 small dots underneath). 8. Cyclops (most obvious tell) You will find the cyclops on most reps will be too far to the right. It's pretty basic but every bit helps. |
