COMEX Submariner on Ebay MEGABUCKS !

Now these things don't come up very often.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rolex-Submarin...QQcmdZViewItem

£17,600 and lots of time still to go.

In which way, mechanically, are the different to the stock models. I know that there are several models over many years which have had the COMEX treatment but what does that treatment comprise of?

If I were ever to bid for such a watch I would pass up on the £6.95 delivery and get that watch authenticated by Rolex Bexley before I handed over a brass penny.

Yeah there sure is - either that or some bidders that the seller knows (if you catch my drift ).
Totally agree with you Paul - I'd get the piece checked over completely before handing over a bean.

Could easily be a shill bidder to give the illusion of legitimacy and drive the price up. Hard to tell with anonymous bids.

The COMEX Sub is a rare find indeed....

ebay would be a good place to sell one if need be, since it has such a wide audience, and bids would be expected to reach top dollar...

However, you would think that someone selling such a rare Rolex, and expecting a high return, would at least be able to take quality photos of it.

This is clearly one someone must exercise due diligence with and rigorous research and safeguards before turning over a single penny..

From what I can read there is no difference between the stock 16800 and the Comex, bar the caseback engraving and the Comex lettering on the dial.

Not much for a £20-30,000 premium but saying that if you can find a postage stamp with the queens head the wrong way around, ££££££.

True Paul, but I think what sets there (and Mil. Subs) apart is the history each piece has. Made in extremely small numbers, these were issue watches used by professionals (with as I understand it very rare exceptions) These watches were never sold to the public.

You are quite correct, of course, Mike.

My mind, being of limited capacity, doesn't get turned on by such things.

I know that autographs can fetch tens of thousands of pounds and a baseball that was hit by XYZ record breaking batter can go for $1,000,000 etc but it just doesn't float my boat.

I love the vintage daytona due to its LOOKS and not the "Paul Newman" thing and when I think of Sean Connery I think toupee instead of vintage sub.

I BLOODY LOVE the 1680 red though !!!!!!

You would expect someone selling such a rare and valuable watch would have better scans.

Maybe it's just me.

That's scary enough for even 5 GBPs but for over 17,000??? It's insane!!

The whole thing looks so bad and contrived to begin with. I mean the blurry photos, no certificate but....blah blah blah. It's probably just a set up among many individuals who continue bidding the price up to scam real suckers.

And the real problem that perpetuates this is the number of potential suckers out there who actually bid based on the info provided.

I grow even more skeptical of e-bay when it comes to high-end items. I don't want to sound naive asking but I have to: Is there a chance this thing is real?

Makes me wonder where somebody who's only ever sold a $10 compass on eBay came up with a COMEX.

Well guys that one finished on £25172 - yes, that's just over 50 thousand dollars!!

Is this the price one can expect to pay for one of these?

Seller claims that he got the watch when we worked for Comex, and claims to have service papers from Rolex.....

Maybe a month ago one was sold for 40 000 dollar if I remember correctly.
Somebody on here with great knowledge about Comex said in a thread between 50 000 and 100 000 dollar.

Were I to every purchase a rolex on ebay, I would ask the seller to accompany me to my RSC so I could get it checked and verified. If the seller refuses, I wouldn't bid. I understand that one may not be in the same state as the seller - it all comes back to what you're prepared to go through for a particular watch.

Ebay need not be the fearful giant some believe it to be. There are genuine sellers out there.

Once wanted to buy a president through a website similar to Ebay.
He actually wanted to have the watch verified AFTER I put my money down O_o.
No way Jose.

Maybe a little high, since no chronometer certificate, but still I think that the buyer paid too soon not too much.

I was tempted too.

The watch is genuine.

Had a fellow Comex friend go and see it in person. Buyer was from New Zealand - was that you JJ.
