Ceramic One Month Report

Well in two days I'll have owned the ceramic for one month.

Thougths:

Design: Every day that passes I fall more and more in love with the overall design. It is truly gorgeous. It's very sporty but at the same time exudes a bit of elegance due to the shiny solid links and the black face. I think I glance at it more to admire it that to find out what the time is!!! I nearly went and bought a YG version yesterday - there is one in the warehouse in Melbourne - but I really much prefer the understated stainless look. If Rolex ever release a WG version I'll be all over it. I'm not quite ready for the day-date model.

Accuracy: Initially it was +2 secs a day. Now it has settled down to +0 secs a day. This of course may change over the next two weeks so will keep you posted. Rolex have truly outdone themselves with this movement.

Mystique: Only ONE person has commented on it so far - and he's a huge fellow watch buff. I'm sort of glad about this because I honestly don't like the attention. I've seen people stealing glances at it of course but it's nice to have a classy, understated - there's that word again - piece. Just as an aside, the 24 hour hand has proved very useful - I have to deal with London on a daily basis and it's great knowing what the time is there at a single glance....

Ruggedness: I now wear it every single day. It comes for runs with me, swims, and everything else I care to throw at it. It's had a few bumps and knocks but so far, no marks. Except of course for where the security buckle flicks back and hits the band when you take it on/off - there's a very faint mark there - this is a common rolex thing though. Nothing the RSC can't buff out when it goes in for it's 5 yr checkup!

Overall: I'm extremely impressed with it. It's virtually my perfect watch. I can't think of anything it needs, or anything that requires changing. Go Rolex and I look forward to the ceramic-sub version! Oh, and the WG GMT version please!

Excellent report! Honestly, if the new GMT is a preview of things to come Rolex is on the cusp of golden era.

Nice report.

I could not add more. Even though it is my first and only Rolex, I could not imagine a better watch for me.

Everything about the watch is sublime.

Thanks for the well-written report! Those don't come through my AD and stay long, so I've only handled one in person. The new GMT is fabulous, IMO! Like the green arrow, too, nice contrast for the classically sharp red hands...

Great report on a great watch

I went the opposite direction after two weeks of TT, bought the Yellow Gold. It will be fun in about six months to see if we are as nuts about these watches as we are today.

Rolex has certainly hit a home run on these. Story is that the Submariner gets the same treatment next year.

A good time for Rolex

any idea about the collectibility of these- anywhere near the submariner LV or dayona's limited production numbers?

Just saw it two days ago- great watch, might get the SS daytona along with this as a packaged deal.

Hey Bo, welcome back! BTW, I received the Rolex Report in the post a few days ago and have been pouring over it like a little kid! My question is, what should I get next - and if possible, something with colour pics?

As the reference guide, the RR is just superb. Thanks for recommending it!

Thanks, and no problem

I suggest you get "The Best of Time" by James Dowling and "Vintage Sport's Rolex watches" (not sure about the last title being at work again).

Kesaharu Imais book "2421" is also a very nice reference book with lots of pics (2421 pics hence the title ).

But you can have a PIC of my books and maybe you can read of some of the titles from the books?

Speaking of "RR", ironically I have quite a few books on "RR" (Rolls-Royce motorcars) as well:

AJ: Get both books when you can as they're both great. But if your focus is on the GMT and you're going to get only one book or one at a time, I'd recommend Vintage Rolex Sports Models before The Best Of Time. Both devote entire chapters to the GMT with the former going into more detail. The latter is a coffee table book, very big and heavy, which makes for great reading but less mobile.

Both have tons of color photographs.

Thanks for the update of my next watch!
