YG Rolex haters...
I know this subject has been discussed before but here's my story:
Last night at the gym -while training one of my team members/client- I saw a member wearing a YG Sub. Ive known the guy for years so I approached him and congratulated him on his watch. Minutes later the girl I was with said to me: "You were joking right? You were been sarcastic?!?" I said no, that I really liked the watch (I wouldn't wear it to the gym, I would be scared of damaging it) but I really liked it. She looked at me and said: "only douchbags (sorry but keeping it real) wear that type of watch. At that point I knew I was not going to convince her otherwise and we kept going with our workout. Anyway, she later txt me (calling me douchbag btw) and sent me this link. According to her (this is Dallas TX) most of her -women- friends or circle (she is an investigator for a law firm and former FBI investigator) view gold Rolex owners in this light: http://jalopnik.com/5893665/meet-the...r-in-the-world Why? The guy at the gym is an older gentlemen, very quiet and polite. But she imidiately catalogued him as a middle aged guy that stays in shape to " hook up" with younger girls ( not true at all). Do we have to thank Jersey Shore for this?

You can't lump everyone into 1 stereotype. Bottom-line, your friend is wrong. And not everyone shares her view of gold Rolex wearers.

Here's a quote from that article that just shows how pathetically jealous the writer is, "But after perusing the Facebook page (NSFW) for his Bullrun team I'm not sure I ever want to make that much money." The author really showed his true colors on that one.
I'd love an all YG Rolex. Honestly, I couldn't care less what other people think, especially strangers. People often insult others to make themselves feel better.

Sounds like your lady-friend has bad taste (Geez, now I sound small minded too). If the Gent would have been wearing a PVD No-Name, would this have been more acceptable?
Many feel the need to attach a stigma to things. Gold watches, popped collars, Mercedes, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Bud light?--- I was hanging out with a buddy at a bar and was told by a lady (who began talking to us) that only broke D-Bags drink Bud Light. So, I ordered another Bud-light and laughed. Some people need to judge others. This won't change. I wear a YG DD all the time. I've only had one issue where someone said it looked tacky to wear a Fake Gold watch lol...

If "the girl I was with" started calling me a douchbag , I'd look for a new friend pronto.

I think they call it prejudice, or nowadays it's called profiling. In either case these categories some people use are not always accurate nor on target.

I agree 100% with all the answers. If I could I would own one proudly. Anyway I made sure to tell her that for a trained analyst it was sad to see her "box" someone in a stereotype so fast. She is young, self professed reality show junkie and ( here I go placing her in a stereotype) clearly her only exposure to fine watches are rappers and MTV celebrities. Oh well, my only regret was not asking the owner of the yg to allow me to try it on and maybe take a pic. Maybe next time!

Ive always wanted purchase & wear every day an 18kt YG GMT Master 2c or Sub but whats stopped me from buying one is: im walking down the street & someone can see gold from far away & if they need money, well, you know what happens next.

I'd wait until Burger King started giving away watches with the children's happy meals again and present one to her as a gift.
If she squawked, I'd tell her to go to hell. That's just me.

That divorce lawyer doesn't seem to be a WIS... seems to have the same YG watch in all his pictures. I am jealous he got to meet Lamborghini's Balboni though.

She sounds like a lowest common denominator person and her opinion should not be taken seriously.

I love YG watches and wear them a lot, sometimes with gold jewelry, sometimes without. Not that I want to brag or anything but I am usually a timid man who just like to joke around and have fun with friends and people I know and my attitude doesn't change with my jewels.
However people will always have prejudice against a lot of people. Should one drive a fancy car, wear tailored suits, have a Rolex or have a gold watch on his wrist, there will always be people to talk against him and categorize him in a pejorative and "stereotype" category. I personally don't care about them and keep being who I am despite what I wear! P.S.: As for that attorney, the first that came to my mind when I read the article was "he could drive a Mazda and his attitude would remain the same", I believe in the "it's all in the attitude and personality" theory.

I'm totally ok with a prejudiced person whose ignorant to horology or our pursuits calling me a DB. It would be a badge of courage. I mean most people who see a white gold sub don't realize what their looking at. Does that mean the guy wearing it is less of a DB cause a novice can't see the YG?

Well there certainly are DB's who are more obvious and that may have been her point, but less we forget DB's don't have to wear gold watches or drive Lambo's DB's come in all shapes and sizes and they don't necessarily wear distinct signs of their true douchey-ness

And the "girl" has apologized after reading the thread and having a short conversation. Not hanging out w her either, training...my wife would not appreciate that Speaking of my wife, I like her approach to things. You see, she would have asked me why I like it in order to learn about my taste and the reasons why I think its cool. I like that, I guess Im lucky.
