Welcome to TRF!

you are able to buy a SEL bracelet.

But , you won't be able to make it fit on most vintage pieces.

I read reports of some doing this on certain references, but I'm also of the "keep it original" camp.

Personally I don't have a problem with a mix and match of real Rolex parts. Here's pics of the new style jubilee on a 16710 GMT I've run across on the net.

Yes...It can, and has, been done..

But it's not always a simple exchange. As Mike mentioned, depending on the reference, either the end of the SEL needs to be countoured (ground) to fit up against the case. Or, the pin holes in the lugs need to be filled (usually with a press fit or soldered dowel) and a new locating hole drilled for the slightly different location of the SEL spring pin ..

In either case, you're dealing with a several thousand dollar watch case, or a several thousand dollar bracelet.

Not for the faint of heart...

Looks great Dan
So is that a SEL on a non-SEL model?

I agree Larry, not the sort of modification I would be comfortable doing at all. I'm very happy with the bracelets and links on my non-SEL models, it is a vintage watch with vintage charm.
However, I have a rivitted bracelet, and they do feel flimsy, but the factory replacement (non-SEL) is a Rolex approved and worthy upgrade

Steve,
The pics are from a TZ member who put a SEL, solid link jubilee from a new TOG and installed it on his classic style GMT [16710]. He said it worked fine without any modifications.
Don't get me wrong, there's NO WAY I'd modify any Rolex parts to get them to fit. However, I don't mind a mix & match if they do.

That doesn't look like a bad fit, and we both know that is THE look...

I thought we had a discussion with Jocke and others a while back and the consensus was that the later SEL Jubilee would not fit on the GMT or EXP II...

Who wants to go buy a TOG and test this theory ????

I've heard they don't and I heard they do. The pics are the only evidence I've seen so far.
I might be in the Bahamas next week. I'll see if I can pickup a new jubilee down there.

I've got a GMT 16700 and have a SEL oyster fitted on occasions, and other times I have the original jubilee (a replacment, but original). The SEL fits a treat - see http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=22926 - This article shows my 16700 in both guises.

I have also tried a ExpII/GMT SEL on 14060M, buy no cigar. I do have a 16610 with SEL but have yet to try fitting this to the 14060.
