Help a newbie distinguish dssd and sea dweller

Hey everyone
I have a friend who has a sea dweller and I've noticed a lot of mention for dssd as well. Is there a difference in the two?

His sea dweller from what I remember is a slightly thicker sub with no magnifier cyclops.

Thanks for the clarification!

HUGE differences (no pun intended).

DSSD is 43mm while SD (ref. 16600) is 40mm...the latter sharing much in classic styling with its Submariner 16610 relative. DSSD is much thicker than the SD, to account for its far greater water resistance rating, and correspondingly, the sapphire crystal is much thicker than that on the Sea-Dweller...also, the crystal of the DSSD is domed, rather than flat. DSSD has the "RING LOCK" component visible at the edge of the dial, which serves as a case framework between the domed crystal and steel/titanium back to support the immense pressures the DSSD must cope with. And of course, the DSSD has the newer solid link bracelet with the nifty Glidelock extension that can be used to finetune fit while on the wrist. Oh and of course....the DSSD has a glossy Cerachrom (ceramic) bezel insert with 60 fine gradations, compared to the SD with its aluminum bezel insert which only has the fine calibrations to the 15-minute marker.

Really, there are few similarities. Should take about 5 nanoseconds to distinguish one from the other!

I have tried on both and the difference is remarkable....I would own a sea dweller in a minute but found the DSSD way to heavy, think and top heavy IMO...

They are very very different in pretty much every way. Because a picture is worth 1000 words, here they both are so you can compare for yourself:) In person the size is drastically different, with the SD having a smaller diameter than the 16610 and the DSSD being 44mm and being much larger than the 116610. The DSSD is much thicker and the domed crystal is a dead giveaway.

Another point to mention is the dssd replaced the sd. So the sd is no longer in production.
