No-Date Sub Extension Link

Hi,

I've read all the instructions for handling the extension link on the date subs but my 14060 doesn't seem to work the same. The issue is that the link stays fully open and I have to fold it in when I put the watch on. Does anyone know if that is normal? It's no big deal, really. Just would be better if it stayed locked-in all the time.

Thanks!

Welcome to TRF, Carl!

On the old-style Sub bracelet like the one you have on your 14060M Sub, the extension link folds inwards into the clasp and stays locked simply by its pressing against the inner sides of the clasp. The pin in the extension link has a little bulge at either end to make it stay put.

Anyway, that is how is SHOULD be! If your extension link won't stay put inside the clasp, I guess the sides of the clasp itself have been expanded for some reason.

Best thing would be to take it to your AD to get it fixed easily and probably without any charge.

Keep us updated, please!

Carl,

Welcome. It should stay in, although not as well as the full links that fold in on the newer style divers bracelets.

There are two sets of holes inside the clasp. The 4 closest to the 12 o'clock side of the clasp are for adjusting to fit your wrist..

The second set also has four holes..These are for the rivit on the flat links to "click" into. If the clasp doesn't hold the rivit firmly, you can bend the sheetmetal in a bit in the vicinity of those holes, if you're careful....

Thanks so much everyone!

I didn't explain it too well: the link stays in place just fine held in by the pins that click. Then it folds over the other post with the slot cut in it. I was just wondering if it's supposed to snap up against the clasp but from what I'm hearing, I guess the answer is "no."

Thanks again.

BTW, it's my favorite watch and I've had it almost a year now. You'd think I would have figured stuff like this out by now!

I doesn't snap up against the clasp...But it should snuggle behind the pin (with the slots) and swing free since that end of the extension is just slightly narrower.

Sounds like your fine..

Great watch by the way..

Thank you, Larry. I had this watch serviced (refurbished might be a better word) earlier this year by the RSC in Beverly Hills. It's a 14060 (without the M) but I had the bezel, hands, face, stem and crystal replaced. Cost me about $1K but it's pretty close to perfect now. The only real difference between it and a new one is the caliber 3000 movement. I considered leaving the original face with the T<25 designation for authenticity purposes but really wanted functional lume. The watch was made in '91.

Now that I know the bracelet is correct, I can rest easy!

Great watch and a grand well spent.

I think you did the right thing for a 14060...'Course, in a couple of decades it might be the hot one to find..

Yep, my P serial 14060m does the same thing. The extension snaps in at the centerpoint, but the end kinda flops out when I undo the clasp...

As Larry said, sounds normal for the 93150 bracelet.
