Hello Friends,

My 40th birthday is coming up in July, so I thought I'd give myself a gift.

Right now I'm considering the new Explorer II, black dial, or the YG DDII. I've never owned an all gold watch, and not sure if it's something that I'd end up keeping. But, since I own a few, I thought it might be a nice addition. Decisions...decisions...decisions. I know it boils down to personal preference etc etc and which one sings to me more, but I'd love to hear from anyone that was in the same boat, went all gold and didn't look back. Thanks in advance.

My 40th is this year as well and I am leaning towards my first all Gold for my 40th. My wife is pushing me to get it for my birthday and I honestly cannot wait to add an all Gold watch to my small collection.

I really like both watches, but they are complete opposites (in style, function and price point), so it is very hard to compare the two head-to-head. It is sort of like asking, "should I buy an S63 Mercedes or a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon?" The answer depends entirely on what you want to do with it.

Because you already have a few SS sports models, I would lean toward trying out the DD. I think it would add some great variety to your collection and would be a very special piece to celebrate a milestone birthday.

I think if you really wanted an all gold watch it would be a lot better, it doesn't sound like your convinced.

Good point Charles. That was the original thought, but I really love that new EXP II as well.

No not yet. On Wednesday I'll be heading into the AD to try both on. I'm not a flashy guy, and I feel the gold is a little to flash for me. Not to mention, I hate losing on a timepiece, so I'd better get it right.

Go Vintage DD on a leather strap (If you can pull off 36mm size) and pickup the Exp II. You get your Gold out of your system and get a great watch in the Exp II.

Full YG is great, but, it takes a real desire to pull it off, and, if you're contrasting it with the 216570, I'd say take your time, get the Explorer II now, and go all YG another day.

Well, it depends if you want to go for gold or SS. I'm not a gold guy myself, so I'd probably lean towards the EXPII.
