SS Daytona little less cool?

I remember about 5 years ago these were ridiculously sought after but it seems the hype has died down?
Any SS daytona love out there?

Whats the general tally here? Still a good buy?

the hype died the day after you noticed they were sought after in 2007...

great and iconic reference and nice to have in your collection however...

One of my favorite watch period... the hype died when economy went down the toilet, but its still one of the nicest watch ever produced.

I really like the Daytona. Its a good thing the hype is fading, let the enthusiasts reclaim the watch.

I picked up my SS Daytona last March as my first foray into the Rolex brand. Cannot say I am disappointed in any way. Regardless of hype, I still find the watch to be magical and catch myself looking at my wrist several times a day without actually knowing what time it is

Those who purchased a Daytona because of it's perceived hard to find status, without a true desire for that reference, can potentally wind up very disappointed.
Those who purchased a Daytona because it's THE watch that really sang to them can potentally be satisfied for a lifetime.

It's hard to say the hype has died down for any Rolex, certainly not a model like the Daytona. I visited the new boutique in NYC the other day and it was standing-room only, customers nearly shoulder-to-shoulder.

Do some models get more attention than others? Sure, but Rolex is still the dominant watch brand out there.

if you look around, there are heaps for sale and they sit around for ages. 5-7 years ago they were like gold dust

ADs here in the UK still hype them up with "oh our Daytona waiting list is 5 years" blah blah, well knowing there's 3 sitting in the safe ready to be sold to high rollers and Chinese tourists on buying sprees.

in the FS section here look around and you can snap one up in a matter of minutes

I'd love a nice NOS Daytona, now that's something else, no PCLs and other bling factors...

having said that while the modern day Daytona is common as muck it is still a great watch

s.s daytonas are superb but I have always thought that they are vastly over-priced. They are still only available on a 'waiting list' basis here which is obviously pure marketing balony, supply and demand etc. etc. I recently made enquiries as to the availability of a ss black dialed model in an AD. After a few moments the dealer came back and said that they had one but that they operate a waiting list system on this model, HOWEVER, if I get in straight away to the shop they would let me have it. 'WOW', I said, leave it with me and I will get back to you. I think it's still there!!.

like you say those waiting lists are all BS. it must be in a script from Geneva

the AD i deal with the most usually has a few in the safe. used as bait, "sorry sir, can't sell you a daytona, buuuuut if you buy the GV and DSSD then i'm happy to discuss".

The hype per se died a long time ago, which is a good thing because then there are more available for those who truly want one.

I finally bought one last year. Found one at an AD within a AD at list price. It wasn't my thing though in real life - I find the dial is too busy, it is not a complication I use (a date would have been better), and I'm no fan of the PLC. Very comfortable watch though in a good size.

It is still sought after may be not as much as 6-7 years ago because of the current economy

I love mine so much that I bought two of them lol. Seriously though, I just love their look and because of it's low side profile, it's one of the most comfortable to wear Rolex's in my collection. It's iconic, if you collect Rolex's, then it's a must in every collection!
