The Horror

You know how a couple of weeks ago afc333 posted that he was turning 40 and his wife had given him a beautiful Sub for his b-day? This thread is the opposite of that.

TODAY, 12 May I turn 40. After I woke up and my kids gave me very sweet presents that they made, my wife gives me back my GMT Coke.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.....

Don't worry, that's just a dust cover. Besides, it will probably polish out!

I'm surprised she gave it to you.

I'd like to think my gf would put it in a drawer and give it me after my birthday so it didn't ruin the day. Yes I realise how odd it is that a broken crystal would ruin my day.

Thank you everyone for (some) sympathy. I understand it's just a watch and it's repairable. This one is special because it's my first Rolex, a gift from my father, and a graduation gift. Oh well.

Thanks. She was getting ready and dropped it on the shower tiles. Fortunately I'm going to Houston on Monday, so I'll be paying a visit to the RSC in Dallas next Tuesday.

Yep. I was surprised too and to her credit she thought about giving it to me tomorrow (which happens to be HER birthday). And yes, I'm trying hard not to let it ruin my day.

Oh well!

Happy birthday!

Is that a crack in the crystal, or just the lighting?

Just remember that a broken crystal isn't the end of the world and as bad as it looks the watch underneath should still be all good.

Forgot to say Happy Birthday in my first post so Happy Birthday

Happy BD
A lot of force is needed to do that to a Rolex.
Maybe a Gshock is an alternative.

Happy Birthday. If it were me I'd be looking forward to having a new crystal with a 'S' in its etched coronet.

Happy Birthday. Now quick, pull out the crown in case some small shards got in there so as to stop the movement and not scratch the dial.
