Hi all,

this is my first time posting to the forum.

I have long been an admirer of collectable watches and I always wanted a GMT master ever since I was little. I remember seeing one on the TV show magnum and loved the design.

Finally after many years I am now the proud owner of a GMT 2. My wive bought me one for my birthday, as I would never spend the money on myself, so she bought one for me.

I got to choose the model, it had to be a steel bracelet model, as I am a little hard on jewelery, so gold would be too soft for me. I really like the pepsi bezel version and I have tried several on over the past years.

I went in to an AD yesterday to have a look at some models, they had a pepsi bezel model in stock, I found out through this forum that the GMT 2 models have now changed and the bezel colours (plus other bits) have changed. I asked if they had the new model in stock. They had one that had not been unwrapped yet and was still in it's protective wrapping.

It took me about an hour to compare the two models side by side. It was really hard to find one I liked more, I love the red/blue bezel, but I really like the slightly chunkier, heavier feeling new model, and the green writing and long green hour hand look better. I also prefer the new maxi face, it just looks much better. IMHO.

I finally decided on the new model 116710LN, as expected I got no discount. I am very happy with my choice, I just hope they don't bring out a red/blue bezel shortly as I will not be happy!

Also, the more thought about it, the more I was unhappy with the older red/blue bezel version, I have found it seems to be the most copied replica rolex watch around. I don't like the idea of that. With the new design, I like the rolex writing all the way around the inside face, plus the new bezel design hopefully will be harder to copy.

just a quick question, the manual included with my watch describes and shows pictures of the previous GMT 2 watch, not the new model. I know the box was right, because the serial number from the card matched the watch.

Is this right?

Rolex was using it's stock of manuals before the new one was used. Your's simply came with the old manual (as did mine). I believe a new one is now being used.

It is unconscionable that Rolex would put an old manual in with a new $6,000 + watch. They are just thumbing their noses at the stupid, consenting consumer that would be willing to go along with that level of uncaring.

Mike, that's a bit of a slap in the face to those of us that forked out serious currency on the new model GMT only to get it with the old booklet. I'm mindful of making an enquire of Rolex to see if they will supply me (a new model owner) with the current and applicable version of the booklet to go with the new GMT

Ok, I managed to get a few pics, they are mobile phone quality, but not to bad.

I don't have the box etc with me, as I am away from home at the moment, and my wive does not know I am wearing the watch as my birthday is 3 weeks away. So nobody tell her!!

I have not yet removed all of the plastic stickers on the watch, just in case I have to sneak the watch back away.

Congrats. I'm still waiting for my AD to call and tell me mine (GMT IIC) has arrived. It has been "in process" which is the Rolex equiv of "check is in the mail." They say 2 weeks tops.

I was also thinking about the ceramic bezel'd GMT II, but today, I came home with an A-series Pepsi. It may be a popular target for replicas, but I do think it's a design classic in terms of both form and function.

But you never know, a 116710 might find its way into the Collection one day... seeing as Mrs Jedi is now asking me to go on another Quest... this time for a black/red GMT II... Excitement, adventure, a Jedi craves not these things!!
