I dont know why but every time I look at this Patek I think of Pinhead. I wander if the guy who designed it was inspired by him too. He kind of looks like he could be Swiss.

Nice pictures as ever guys.

Does anyone follow the watch snob ? Has he ever mentioned the aquanaut ? Not that his opinion is very valid because he basically hates everything that isn't Patek or Lange but I'm still interested.

I'm pretty sure he had an article advising to skip the Aquanaut and get the Nautilius instead. I'll try to find the article.

Edit: Here it is.

Love this quote from the article--lucky women (at least for getting the watch):

"then again, he gives out Royal Oaks to women he meets in hotel bars."

I don't mean to defend him, but that's not really the case. He simply treats every watch brand as they deserve, and don't shy away from praising a particular model from e.g. Rolex, but hating some other model from the same brand. While it is true he generally loves everything made by Patek and Lange, and he doesn't like every models of any other brand, but he already expressed his positive feelings on some Rolex, IWC, AP and Bremont pieces for example.

Basically it's written for entertainment and it's only an opinion anyways. I kind of like reading the articles from time to time, doesn't mean I would follow their recomendations based on their opinion.

Wow this guy is saying that the aquanaut can take more of a beating than a datejust. Now I haven't seen it but do any owners out there actually think that is true ?

Haha if you gave a Royal Oak to a woman 99% of them wouldn't have a clue what they were getting. They wouldn't know if it was worth $100 or $10,000.

Yeah, but besides the entertainment factor the actual logic the Snob follows can be clearly seen anyway

IMHO even die-hard Patek fans will admit that any Rolex Oyster models are sturdier than even the most roboust Patek watches. Patek makes more delicate, thinner movements that simply cannot be abused the way Rolex movements can.

BTW, the Snob also stated that AP's Cal.3120 is "perhaps the finest automatic movement made today". One more nonsense IMHO -- and that statement by me comes from a guy who owns a Cal.3120 Royal Oak and a Sub-C as well. Just by handling the Cal.3120 and a Rolex 3135 for a few days is enough to draw a different conclusion than the Snob...

I have found proof that the watchsnob is more than one person.

http://uk.askmen.com/fashion/mens-wa...d-watches.html

There you have a link with him calling the Aquanaut "unmentionable" and saying the Nautilus is "the only worthy Patek sports watch". He called it a great mens watch in the first link you guys gave.

Either the guy has multiple personalities or it's more than one guy.

Yeah I knew there was no way it was as strong because I've seen those things boiled and frozen etc. How strong would you say the aquanaut is ? I have this idea in my mind of a thin Patek being really fragile.

I think calling an Aquanaut sturdy and calling it fragile are both exaggerations. I certainly wouldn't mind swimming with an Aquanaut or wearing it all day long every day, but I wouldn't bang the desk with my left fist when wearing it, wouldn't mow the lawn with it, wouldn't power drill with it, etc. But as soon as you put a deep scratch on the beautifully finished steel (or gold) bezel of the Aquanaut, you will think twice before wearing it in harsh situations anyway That's where you're better off with a ceramic, or an easy-to-replace aluminum bezel.
