Patek why would you..........

Make a luxury watch where the strap has to be cut without any instructions?????????????????

I took the watch to a local watchmaker who told me he knew what to do.

I don't know how despite all my care and attention this could have happened.

Suffice to say, the strap was cut by the watchmaker way too short, and I don't know when a new strap will be available, when I will get it back.

This is just a total disaster.

Apart from that there were spring bar marks on the underside of the lug that looked like they came from the factory.

And what's more the movement doesn't hack.

What else could go wrong!!!

Have a good weekend.

Yeah... Um... The 324SC movement in the Aquanaut and Nautilus don't hack, Steve. Don't shoot the messenger, boss! You can halt the second hand by reversing the crown ever so slightly to sync the second hand.

As for the short strap and scratched lugs, I believe tar & feathering is still in vogue. You could try selling your cut strap... someone with small wrists may need one.

very frustrating steve

had similar problem when local ad damaged lugs to my gondolo when fitting a new strap. After showing them the damage they assured me they could sort it out themselves. What a mess they made so i complained to md of store who sent watch back to patek in switzerland. Came back perfect dont know if they refinished or replaced the case very upsetting thad ad thinks he could try and fob me off with poor job in first place though . Hope you get it sorted mate

Experience like this can always sour the moment of happiness.

I can not believe the so call expert cut it too short and scratched the watch. Get him to replace the strap and correct the scratches on his own expense.

I can just see the whole episode now... you were probably either:

1. LOL-ing (as your moniker states).

Or..

2. WTF-ing...

Sorry, but I'm sure it'll all be better soon!

Sorry to hear this...

That's a terrible thing to happen mate!

I am sure it will not take long to get a new strap from PP/SC...

I also picked up my watch yesterday and as it is a preloved PP my strap was just a tad tight (only in the heat when the wrist swell up). I have to wait till next week and go to the SC and buy a new strap as well. Easy to get!

Hey in the mean time how about a Nato + Aqua combo!!!

The guy cutting the strap didn't scratch the lugs, it looks like they are scratched (underneath side) from out of the factory

Anyway I can't believe how careful I was trying to be. I could have got another guy to cut the strap down the road who has a luxury used watch shop and who has a Gold Aquanaut himself, but this guy was supposed to be 'the watchmaker'. Why am I such an idiot

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Hope they sort it out for you!

Samething happen to me in the past. Whether you are buying a new car or watch, always inspect for defects before handing the money even if it is suppose to be brand new! It is even more trickier when you take your watch to service. In HK, they jot everything down when you take your watch for service/strap change and make you inspect the watch before you leave the building!

Sorry to hear Steven, however I promise you the extra wait will be rewarded in the end. Hopefully he'll get the additional strap in short order.

Anyway as Mike said you can stop the second hand with a small movement of the crown to counter clockwise if you wish.

Sometimes the real good things in life just take a bit more time and patience.

it's not meant to be hacking... certainly wouldn't want to wind the wrong way and screw up the movement or cause unnecessary wear

Really, why is hacking that big of a deal to you?

Steve

I am sorry to hear this and know how disappointed you must feel.

The new straps can be ordered (about $275 USD) from any AD and should take about a week.

Once received just do the cutting yourself--very simple to do.

It does take a little time, but patience is important with that strap sizing.

I can feel your frustration, but know it can be fixed relatively soon and for not too much $$.

the clumsy watchmaker should pay for this

cutting the strap does not require much experience other than a steady hand and sharp scissors...
