Icon11 Explorer II with Glidelock; It's Cool!

The new Explorer II model 216570 debuted at the Basel 2011 show, but the watch was missing one item to make it the perfect watch, and that piece was the GlideLock clasp normally outfitted on the Rolex Submariners.

Voilà, a GlideLock clasp on my Explorer II. The Glidelock clasp should be standard on the Explorer II, but unfortunately the only way to pimp this watch was to source the GlideLock clasp separately.

The great thing about the GlideLock Extension System is that it enables easy adjustments in 2mm increments and offers a total extension of up to 20mm, long enough to fit over a 3mm wetsuit, or on the outside of a long sleeve shirt or thin jacket.

I have more comparison picts of the clasps and a small write-up here.

With the GlideLock clasp, the watch is now perfect.

-Sheldon

Nice write-up (as usual)!

The GlideLock should be an option for the Explorer II, just as the 93150 was an option during the 1980's and 1990's.

As a matter of fact, it should be an option for all professional models...

Best,

A

Great work, and write-up, Sheldon

Now, if only Rolex had fitted a Triplock crown to this watch...

But the larger Twinlock is nice enough

Can I fit this to my 93150 bracelet?

Absolutely love what you've done by the way.

You can always ask...doubt an AD woulds swap.

You need to have a source...may be easier to buy at a non US RSC

Interesting comparison of the two clasps too side by side

I've been working on sizing my glidelock on a Sub-c and have to keep remiding myself that the clasp itself is longer, and sits more to the 12 o'clock side as oppoes to the buckle portion being any different than my former Explorer. What that means is that centering the clasp on the underside of your wrist is less precise from a looks perspective, and more important on the top of your wrsit from your viewing angle.\

PS - post a request for a glidelock in the title and you'll get some private messages.

Rolex Custom Shop - that's what they need!

Sub-c date with glidelock and no cyclops - all over it and would pay extra!!!
