There never has been a bigger "hoarder" than me. I'm torn between wearing these watches and wanting to baby them. But the "sadzoe" saga got me thinking. Her husband wore that beautiful Daytona for years enjoying it. Then it's ripped up and she still gets $100K for it. How much would she have gotten if the watch had been BNIB? If he had put it away when new. $200K? More? The guy that bought it then isn't going to wear it. So basically you have a piece of art instead of a useful watch. Any mechanical device is made to be run. IMO some of us , in our love of these watches, forget that. I'm walking around half the time using my cell phone for the time while two Rolexs sit on a winder. Nuts!

I am buying one to wear it. I agree with ohsixx....I drive my Viper like I stole it too and people can not believe I drive it daily. I drove my Z06 for 5 years prior to the Viper...

You can't take it with you :)

Very good points, David!

In a way, you should only have ONE watch that you wear all the time. As soon as you have two or more watches, some are being neglected.

A watch is made to be worn. If you own it, wear it.

If you baby it to the point of not wearing it, you're not getting any enjoyment out of the watch and you're merely keeping it nice for the next owner.

You bought it to wear it and not for the sock drawer, winder to hold for you.

If you have multiple watches, you'll eventually wear them on regular intervals.

I only have 1 watch, a Seiko 007. A fantastic watch and I wear it everyday in every situation, I plan to buy a Sea Dweller and keep my Seiko as a spare in the event of servicing the Rolex etc.

My future Rolex will be worn like my Seiko is now.

If I don’t wear it, someone else will eventually. I can’t justify buying a Rolex for someone else to wear after I’m gone!

I wear my WG daytonas daily and my PP every other evening when going out. They get markd, but so what, at least I get to enjoy them. If they get really bed take them in to egt serviced.

Another thing, after reading the topics on here, by the sounds of it, when your watches get serviced by Rolex it comes back like a new watch anyway!

New crystals bracelets polished buffed and all shiny like new again

Life is about the journey not the destination. Used to be my favorites [clothes, watch, shoes, ect] were considered too sacred to enjoy.

At almost 50 the hell with that. I'm going to use and enjoy my toys while I can get the most out of them.

I wear my Rolex while I work on my classic mustang, so I can drive it like....well at least like I rented it.....but then again I am only 31.

I wear my everyday. In the shower everyday. In bed every night. I take it off to clean it and occasionally when I am loading gear in and out of our bands trailer. I would have to smash against a 200lb speaker cabinet or break the $1000 bracelet.

Some funny answers here.

I guess I take a more conservative approach. Certainly any modern piece and a lot of vintage pieces can (and should) be worn as one sees fit.
However; with the crazy pricing some pieces have obtained AND the lack of support by Rolex regarding some pieces, a few collectors are revisiting this approach.
While my little group is humble compared to some collections I've had the good fortune to see, I'll admit to having a few pieces that rarely see the world outside. Not because I don't think the watch is fragile, but because replacement has become so very difficult and $$$$.
At some point one has to ask "Does it make sense to wear a watch that has appreciated in value and desirability to point it's silly to do so?"

We recently had the honor of viewing a collection assembled painstaking by a collector who, as I understand it, rarely wears many of the references in that collection. I do know that that pride he feels in that collection gives him immense satisfaction and the knowledge that he possess rare and exotic models is certainly a wonderfull investment.
I am of the belief that certain of these pieces transcend being merely a watch, but serve as reminder of a time when these were real tools.
Certain of these pieces are more than the sum of their parts,the likes of which we will never see again.
